Governor still at it.....

Sitting here watching the news and the governor of PA is still pointing fingers and trying to come up with a solution to the problems that occured during the Valentine's Day snow. They have blamed PENNDOT, the officers that were on duty, and anyone else they could think of, however, I would have loved for the media, the politicians, or whoever to have asked those people that were stranded....why are you on the road? what is your emergency that you need to get somewhere? The storm was predicted, we knew it was coming, and yet there are still idiots who think they have to get out there and drive. Come on people, not only are you putting yourself in danger, but you are also putting emergency workers and our state police officers in danger trying to rescue you! And, although I am making these statements as a concerned citizen that knows better then to even start my vehicle in a snow storm, let alone get out on the road, but I have a boyfriend that stayed over on his shift as a police officer to try and help remedy the situation, and no he wasn't getting paid for all his overtime. He did it because it was his job. Any opinions welcome on this subject.

Yes, these people that get out there and try to drive in that stuff are way out of line, and they put a lot of people to work, that is not that necessary! Sounds like this governor is trying to place the blame in the wrong direction! People don't need to drive in that weather, I know, i've driven in it myself when I used to drive from Kansas City to Pennsylvania, but when it got bad, I just parked my truck, and took a break, and the load just got there, when it gets there!

you know pa L., that there is something that some of the states do, that I like, and that is shut down the Interstate, when they get bad! And I don't know what states do that or not! But that would save a lot of accidents just right there!

That is a good idea, but it's like having to inact motorcycle helmet laws, ya know, if people are so thoughtless and stupid that they have to be told.........ya have to wonder, do they have enough sense to be out on the roads in the first place.lol Of course, closing them down would make my boyfriend's life easier!

It's unbelievable how stupid people can be, huh? If there were more drivers that thought like you, there wouldn't have been 18 wheelers jack-knifed on 78, just compounding the problem. And so what if the load got there late, better late, then never. I mean there were people stuck out on the interstate with small children in the vehicle, if ya want to be that stupid, fine, but do it by yourself, and don't expect to be rescued from your stupidity.

I've thought the same things as you have. S/o and I didn't even get to spend Valentine's Day together even though he had the whole day/night off because we were both smart enough to not try to drive in it. I realize that some of the stranded motorists may have been on their way home from work but not all of them and it's still no excuse. They knew the storm was coming and should have made better arrangements. It's not like we live in an area that rarely gets snow either. People who live here should know and be prepared for the possibilities. If your vehicle will not make it on snowy roads you either need to get a different vehicle or learn to stay home!

We spent the whole Valentine's week apart, his station is in Reading and we live up near Pottsville. He's lived here all his life and didn't want to attempt to drive home, luckily his parent's live closs to his station. I on the other hand know my limitations, I've only lived here 2 1/2 years, moved here from Texas, so I don't do snow (driving) lol. But you are right, in an area that is used to snow, these people should have known better, and yet, not once was that ever a consideration as to what was part of the problem. One couple I did see interviewed, stated they were on their way to surprise her dad on his birthday!! Yeah, they made it a day later, so why couldn't they have waited for a better travel day? who knows.

That's the downside of living here though, some people do know better than to go out in a snow storm but others think that they are just so used to it they can go anywhere through anything. I didn't get my vehicle out until Sunday and my s/o couldn't get out until Friday.
