What makes it a Top Discussion?

I'm kind of new to all of this. So I was wondering if anyone out there knows how a certain discussion becomes a part of 'Todays Top Discussions'? Who decides that? I have a top discussion today (which is pretty cool), but there were only 3 responses. Anyone out there know the answer to this one?

WOW, I never thought about this actually. anyway I think a top post is one where there are lots of responses and lengthly posts. also with frequent visits. Its all basic stuff really. Although there maybe more to it. CHEERS
