my teen son scrimped and saved to purchase a $235 dvd television series set, only to receive it not from USA as stated but from China.... the quality was not great, the extras were not on the dvds and instead of being MGM studio it was some name quite foreign to us... oh yes and the set was not encrypted. contact to the seller was fruitless, ebay had him listed as no longer registered... though he had superior feedback :/ thank fully he made his purchase through my paypal account and within 1 week of notifying paypal of our complaint they ruled in our favor and the entire amount was credited back to us. kewl beans!

Buyer protection is great there is one way you can run into a problem though if the seller would have closed his paypal account when he closed his ebay account your son could have lost all the money. It is great he was able to get it back.

oh, you know when son first won the auction and attempted to pay with paypal our transaction was rejected because the seller was temporarily suspended - contact to the seller and he gave us a good story as to why it was suspended - he was back in business a few days later so we shrugged it off - we probably should have called paypal and found out if we should have even dealt with the person. Though, I am not sure that we would have been stuck if he had his account closed as the buyer protection was through paypal and not the seller. I don't know...but, we will certainly be more careful in the future. Goes to show that thousands of positive feedback can still go awry.

wow thats great. its so sad that so many of those scammers are getting through on ebay. it makes me nervous to buy anything on there. I still do though because you can find some great deals :) I'll just make sure to use the buyer protection from paypal.

Wow! That is really awesome! I'm an eBay user big time for both buying and selling but i've never had a deal go wrong. It's nice to know that Paypal really does come through if something does go wrong. I'm glad your son got his money back! That would have been a horrible life lesson if they had not refunded his hard earned money.

Good to hear you got your money back. You have to be very thorough when you check out a seller, look at their feedback and read it carefully as it can give you a clue as to the kind of trader they are. It is far too easy to build up a high feedback score by buying a lot of ebooks for example, and in most cases the scammers are based in the oriental area too.

Oh that's great. At least that guy didn't get away with scamming you for the wrong item. Many losers do this so that they can make money, but not the right way. Also look out for people selling anything that is copyright. Report them immediately so that they will get their consequences.

woww... that is awesome... it is good to know that paypal protects us when we buy something online from ebay... it will deter the spammers who resort to all kind of things to earn money... good on you and your son to get the money back... well done...

Oh wow, that is so good to know! It is really scary sometimes buying from ebay. I have (so far...and I best knock on wood!) not had a problem with anything I have bought on ebay but have often wondered what would happen if I did! Thanks for sharing...and I'm glad it worked out for you and your son! Oh, and I admire your parenting...having him save for his purchase!

Oh that's just wonderful. it's good to have some ggod news. I've been very happy with the service from Paypal though I've just used it to buy a few things. What a good thing for your son to learn that there is justice in this world. It's usually a harder lesson to learn.

Wow, it is great to know that they actually do what they say. I am so glad your son got his money back. I wonder if they go after the perpetrator and prosecute them. That would be nice!

you said your son got the tv set not from the U.S. but from China.I think it may be the seller ordered the item from China and reselled it to you. But i think his act of cheating you is costly because he had to give up a account with a relatively high rating.
