I stepped on a staple!!

I can't believe it happened but I am glad it was me and not my son! A piece of art work that was brought home from school by my son ended up on the floor and I did not notice it! I guess the teacher must have displayed it on a bulletin board before sending it home and it had a staple in it which went right into my heal and was very painful...Thankfully I am O.K tetanis shot wise.... So, has anything like this ever happened to you? Perhaps you stepped on a nail or some old metal of some kind...Where were you when it happened and what were you doing when the item went in...did it involve a trip to the hospital? Please share! Thanks in advance! ~Heavens~

When I was a kid, maybe 6 or 7, somehow I had a toothpick on the floor in my room. Somehow I stepped on that toothpick and it went into the middle of my foot and broke off! Somehow I managed to walk downstairs and get my dad and ask him to pull it out! We put peroxide and Iodine on it and I couldn't walk right on my foot for a few days... but it worked out fine. I'm a clumsy person, but that was probably one of the worst things I stepped on.

Here's my hospital trip... I fell off a set of monkey bars in grade school and nearly bit my tongue right off!! I actually had to have it sewn back on!!! My son fell in his bedroom and split his ear wide open on his bed and needed stitches also...the silly things we do! LOL Definately not funny at the time!

I know, talk about a really big splinter! I have had hospital trips before too, but busting your chin open on the side of a filing cabinet just isn't as cool of a story ha ha.

Oh as a kid I remember quite well at least twice going to get a tetanis shot from stepping on a rusty nail and once as an adult. You know what? As an adult it involved my brother-in-law leaving nails when he was doing construction here, makes me wonder if he was also involved in the ones when I was a kid..??

Wow! You really have a thing with nails...Ouch and three tetenus shots in your life time!! I only remember one tetenus shot about six years ago but that is a story for another time! Thanks so much for sharing with me my friend! :) ~Heavens~

OUCH! Glad your ok. That hrts like hell! I have stepped on a few things. I have stepped on nails, tacs, toys, and a lego. Now Ill tell you what. The lego hurt worst of all. It was one of the duplo ones...the bigger legos. I got up in the middle of the night and stepped right on it. I got to big holes in my foot from it! It looked like a really big vampire bite on the ball of my foot. I should have gone to the hostpital but I dint want to wake the kids and take them out in the cold at 3 am. I took care of my foot and bandaged it. I was off it for over a week. Stepping on things dosent feel so good! LOL

Ya they learned to pick up toys after that. I showed them what happened and they make sure things are put away.

Yes that would definitely have been a lesson... Sometimes I gues they have to learn the hard way! A mistake is not a mistake if you learn from it!

Wow!! That's really brutal! who would have thought a lego would do that!! Now there is incentive to encourage our children to tidy up the toys isn't it! :) My son has autism but he understands to tidy up all I have to do is ask and he puts the items in a bin... Thanks so much copperkitten! ~Heavens~

You know the so-called tackless carpeting that manufacturer's installed years ago? (I'm not sure if they still call it that). They really use a strip of tacks so why it was called that I have no idea. Well, I was having this installed in my house and they couldn't finish all in one day, so, they left the three stairs to the family room with just the strip of tacks. Dummy me without thinking, came up from the basement and went running up the stairs and got totally, completely, stuck. All my toes on my right food were anchored to the strip of tacks. I eventually was able to unlatch myself and every toe underneath had a hole in it....ew! It's kind of funny now when I think of it. I sat on top of the kitchen counter with my foot in the kitchen sink full of water, washing them all off, haha. I luckily just had a Tetenus shot a couple years prior (when I stepped on a rusty nail twice, duh), lol! Gee, sounds like I was pretty accident prone back then, haha!

Oh my I just about threw up to think of all of your toes stuck to the step!!1 Must have been very painful and was there alot of blood? Where were you and what were you doing when you stepped on the nail(s)two years prior? I had my tetenus shot about six years ago and they last for ten years so I am O.K that way but that is another story for another time! ~Heavens~

HaHa, you're so funny! Yes, there was alot of blood...but I had some Neosporin and a bunch of bandages, haha, that's all I needed and limped around for a few days. With the two nail incidents, one was in a piece of wood, like a 2X4 and I stepped on it in the backyard. It went right through my Tennis shoe into the middle of my foot....not deep deep, just enough to need a Tetenus shot though. The other time there was a nail in the grass and I didn't know of course, and stepped on it. It went into my heal, and that was about six months after the first incident, haha. I read once that if you are punctured by a rusty nail, and you can put peroxide on it immediately, it can bubble the Tetenus right out....interesting huh?

I did this when I was around 6 years old.. I did not cry for it! I just pull it out like pulling out some stickers from my foot..XD No I wonder how can I be so brave that time. As a kid with soft skin on the foot, I should have cried out loudly but I just pull out the staple like it's not a big deal!!

So sorry to hear thast this happened to you at such a young age even though it seemed to be no big deal for you at the time. I am glad it was me and not my son as he is 4 1/2 years old and has Autism he would have cried and it would have been very traumatic for him!! Also, he would ever keep a bandaid over the area and so it would be really hard top keep it clean while it healed! Thanks so much for sharing your story with me here! :) ~Heavens~

It happened to me once, I just place peroxide gel on it and I was fine after few days. No, I did not go to hospital. I would go only if I stepped on dirty items.

I did not go into hospital for this little staple either! I just put extra strength polysporin and a large bandaid on it! Had it been a long nail or something of that nature I would have.... So where were you and what were you doing when you stepped on the staple?

I don't think I've ever stepped on anything like that. My husband stepped on a nail (not too long ago) that was outside in our backyard. He had went outside to get something that he needed and he stepped on a board that had a nail in it. I had told him over and over to throw them all away because we don't even use them anymore. He just had them laying down beside his building. He came in the house saying "look at my foot, look at my foot" and the nail had went through his boot and into his heel and he had gotten into the house by hopping on the other foot. It didn't go very deep in his heel but it did go into it some and it was bleeding. He had a tetnus shot not long before that so we didn't take him to the doctor. We cleaned it up and put some neosporin on it and a bandaid. He said it was sore for about a week and a half.

when i was about 5 yrs old and still didn't know what a stapler and a staple wire was, i was introduced to it in a memorable and painful manner. i saw the stapler on top of my mom's drawer and played with it, not knowing that when i press it, the staple wire would come out. so as i curiously poked on it, i hit it harder than necessary and out came the wire and stung my thumb. it was in my thum for a couple of seconds until i had the nerve to pull it out. and then i knew that i shouldn't be playing with it. i'm married with kids now. funny but my son was around 3 to 4 yrs old when the exact same thing happened to him. hilarious.

Let's see...I've stepped on a few fishing hooks, thumbtacks and nails but the worst so far has been a large, rusted roofing tack. It went through my shoe (a thin canvas shoe) and into my foot. It speared the shoe to my foot and I had to be taken to the hospital where they stuck a needle in my foot to numb it and then had to cut the top of the shoe off to get the bottom of the shoe and the tack out. I wasn't able to walk on that foot for about 2 days and still have a scar. BTW, 3 days later I was back at the hospital with a gash in the head where my ex-b/f accidently hit me in the head with a cast iron pipe causing me to have 12 stitches. That was my accident summer b/c I was in and out of the hospital just about on a weekly basis. "COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS" **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Wow! that's the worste one yet!! You are the first in this thread who had to go to the hospital to get the item out! No doubt that was painful and much more so than mine although it is still tender today but I do count my blessings!! :) I am thankful it was me and not my son. It could have been worse. Thanks so much for your response! ~Heavens~

Ouch! I am glad you are okay! The last thing I accidentally stepped on was a toothpick. Fortunately for me I noticed it before I stepped down completely with my foot (I wasn't wearing shoes, but I did have socks on). It would have stuck me good if I would have pressed down all the way. Just thinking about it makes me cringe. But I'm glad it was me and not one of my kids. They may not have been so fortunate.

Well they don't tell me I am accident prone for no reason you know! I have lost count of the number of times I have done things like that - staples are so dangerous, as are drawing pins, rolls of sellotape, rubber bands, paper clips etc! So glad that your son is ok sweety - remember to keep the foot clean and protected! xxxx

I have stepped on nails and tacs and barbie shoes and so on. So, yes, I have had injuries due to kids leaving things on the floor. I did staple my finger once when I was trying to staple some things together. Wooo, that was a riot! I hope your heel is healing nicely now!

I was in my son's room with him when he went to sit on his little chair but somehow the chair topple dover and so did he...It was like watching in slow motion it happened so fast and there was nothing I could do to stop it!! This resulted in my son splitting his ear open on his bed and needing stitches :( I was so sad for him! Thanks so much for sharing your story with me! ~Heavens~

Sorry to hear your situation but I've stepped into it once, but even worse that I've also stepped into a nail. Luckily it was not deep and the nail was not rusty, however I still use antiseptic liquid to clean the wound and applied the band aid into the wounded area. I've never got into hospital when I have those kind of injury, I can treat it myself.

Yikes! That must have been painful. Back when I used to sew and cross stitch for fun, I remember accidentally dropping one of my needles on the floor and stepping on it. It hurt really bad for a bit, but it wasn't really serious or anything. I just kept the area clean and it was ok. It certainly wasn't pleasant, though!
