Do You Leave The Oven Door Open After Using It?

I do. I figure why waste the heat? Open the door a crack and let the heat out into the room. I have done this for a while now. When Im cold I like to open the door a crack and warm up. Only for a moment or two or the food wont cook right. Of course I have taught the children to stay out of the kitchen and away from the stove when its on. Do you leave the oven door open after cooking?

Oh, I don't know where you guys think of all these subjects all the time. I'm just not as clever as you. Yes, I do leave the oven door open as not to waste the nice warm heat. Especially with gas prices today, geesh! And it warms up the kitchen nicely for a while, and I feel like I have a little fireplace for a moment. You had to teach your children to stay away and I have to watch the cat doesn't decide to get warm too and jump up on the open door. Boy, does it ever end?, haha.

I always thought that was just the normal thing to do! I do it. It seems silly to waste the heat like that...especially with what heating is costing these days. It givs a really nice boost of heat to the room.

I leave the oven door open if I'm cold after baking something. I don't open it while food is cooking, though.

I do some times leave the oven door open after using it. but same as you I will do it when the children are not near the kitchen. The oven is not really that high, I don't want them to touch the warm oven when they are near.

I have, after I am done cooking. It seems silly not too. The added warmth is nice.

Ha! In my old apartment that was the only way to get good heat! We had what is lovingly referred to as "Government Heat", which is the heating pipe that runs around all the outside baseboards of the house. It was run by the apartment complex so we didn't control it. They turned it on when they got ready, and turned it off when they felt like it. It never gave off much heat, so the only way to be comfortable in the house was to turn on the oven and open it wide. Else we would have froze.

Yes, I do. I feel the same as you, why waste the heat? I especially feel that way in the winter. That little extra heat feels wonderful on a chilly day.

Haha yes I do to for the same reason! - seems daft to waste the heat & It warms the kitchen up nicely. Plus, it's cheaper than buying a Aga!

First thing... You are not wasting the heat by leaving the oven door closed the heat will eventually work its way thru the oven. Opening the oven door only gives you that sudden burst of heat. Leaving the oven door closed will still get the heat from it into the house. Now if you are useing a oven that requires you to use wood to heat the oven like they did in the good ole days then yes some of the heat will be wasted and go out the chimeney of the stove. Someone once told me that leaving the oven door open after using it saves the heating elements. OK if this is the case why does the top broiler element work after a year or so? With the oven in bakeing mode the top element is not on. Therefore it is in the same status if the oven was off with the oven being hot and the door closed every time the oven is in use. So why is it that the bottom heating element is the one replaced most often? Your local Maytag Repairman
