Hi! For those myLotters in the US, how much is the usual going rate for babysitters and tutors? Are tutors even popular? What other odd jobs are usually available? Thanks in advance for your response. :)

dear shooting-star...over here, in united states they call them nanny's and they stay in the house with the american family and take care of the children while the parents work...it is quite popular..the nanny goes through and agency in her own country and gets the airfare to come to the united states through her employer's company. my brother-in-law and his wife have a set of twin boy children and they have used nanny's from around the world, but going through international nanny agencies. they have been very good to their nannys...giving them birthday, and christmas presents...paid vacations etc...the nanny's become a member of the family. the only problem is when their visa expires, they have to hire a new nanny...stanzi

Wow, that sounds nice. It's good that they give presents and vacations to their nannies. :) It must be hard to keep switching nannies when the visas expire though, because they would have to learn to trust new people with their children over again. But it seems that your brother-in-law and his wife haven't had problems so that's good. :)

dear shooting-star...yes they loved the nannies, and also learned about the nanny's country and customs in the process, so it was an education for the family and the children too. also, i am sorry, if forgot to answer your other questions in your discussion...you can come to the united states and teach language too or interpret language of your country for us...there are many opportunities to come here and work..also you can come as a college student and earn college credits here at any university here. does this help out...stanzi
