I was so excited about having a Christmas tree for the first time in probably ten years that I'm now sitting next to a fully decorated tree!!! My granddaughter was here for the weekend and obviously feeling down because she's missing her father and brother who don't live with her any more (very long story). This is the first time in her life that her family is not going to be together. As bad as it was it is all she knew. I wish she could realize how her life has changed for the better with them out of it. Both her father and her brother are abusers and my daughter finally woke up and left the father and gave him custody of her son. I knew that getting Vicky to help me put up the tree would help make her feel a lot better and yes, it did! I put Christmas music on for her and brought everything out and almost cried when I saw the look in her eyes. We had so much fun together and when my daughter came to pick her up she didn't even want to leave and kept pointing to the tree and the presents we put under it! My daughter said everyone will think I'm nuts ...lol...and they do but I don't care. My granddaughter is feeling better and she's going to be here over Thanksgiving school vacation to enjoy our tree and that's all that matters to me. (I can't wait for Dec. 26 to take it down...lol)! Would you have put your tree up this early to make someone else happy or do you think I'm nuts too?

No way, you are not nuts at all, it sounds like you would be lots of fun to be around and you are in the spirit of Christmas...I really would like to put my christmas tree up, but its just my husband and myself so i will wait until after thanksgiving, mostly because i will be busy cooking, because we are going out of town for thanksgiving..Your tree sounds beautiful...I think t=you did a wonderful thing for your little grandaughter..I am so happy your daughter woke up and left that man she was with..The son might turn out just like him and really Vickey don't need to be around them.I also have a granddaughter named Vickey...Yes i would have done just like you did, put up my tree, and enjoyed seeing the delight in my granddaughters eyes...She must have had a lot of fun, since she did not want to leave...

Well we all hate to admit somethings, but i have a son that has always been abusive, he started around the age of 13 or younger. He is 44 years old now and hes still abusive..He has never gotten anywhere in his life...Its just full of broken relationships, broken homes and children left without a daddy..These things happen sometimes and we just don't know why.I am just glad your daughter got out in time to save herself and her little daughter.

It's all just too sad. As bad as my grandson was to my granddaughter I know she still misses him. It's so hard to explain things to her in a way that she will understand.

As much as I hate to say it my grandson is going to be an abusive person the same way his father is. At 13 years old he has already hurt my daughter and tried to hurt his sister but luckily I was there to stop it. They are so much happier now that they are gone.

Well, ctry, if you are crazy, there's a lot of people just like you around. I have been hearing many people who have said they already put their Christmas tree up. Really, it's all up to the person. Only you know what you want. I think your reason for doing it is admirable. The fact that you love your granddaughter so much that you are willing to do whatever you can to bring a little joy into her life is great. That is the stuff memories are made of.

Well I woulnd't call you nuts LOL but it's a little early for my taste. But I've actually seen worse than putting up your x-mas tree this weekend. The day after Halloween I was driving past this apt building & I saw through the window that the people had put their tree up. Now THAT'S nuts! ;)

Oh what a wonderful Grandma you are ctry. You did a wonderful thing for your granddaughter and she will remember this day for a long time. I bet she can't wait to come back and stay with you next time. Enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday too! I have already seen a few Christmas tree put up in our area, even with full on light decorations outside a few houses. It's kinda neat when we go for a drive at night and my son just "ooohs and aahs" LOL its cute!

Christmas trees are for the kids anyway so they should have the fun of decorating them as far as I'm concerned.

Sometimes you feel like a nut sometimes you don't. What a boring place the world would be with out some nuts in it.I don't have my tree up yet but I have been listening to Christmas carols for weeks already.

Oh, I think it was lovely way for you to cheer Vicky up. Putting a Christmas tree can be such fun, with all the pretty decorations. Listening to Christmas music is a delightfully happy thing to do. How wonderful to bring such happiness into your grand daughters life. It will make the Christmas atmosphere last longer this year. I think the time Christmas lasts is never long enough. When it is time to take your Christmas tree again Vicky can help you again and feel happy. I know that this is around thanksgiving time. I hope it was enjoyable, or will be enjoyable if you have not had it yet. Happy Christmas!

We in holland have a celebration before Christmas. So we put up the christmas tree after the 5th of December and we take it down after Christmas. Most of the times first week of January. Well our celebration look at Santa Claus but is called Sinterklaas. He gives presents just like Santaclaus but by horse and some Zwarte Pieten(who are his helpers)They pack the presents and put them trhought the chimney. Children have to lay there shoe with a poem for Sinterklaas or a carrot for the horse or some hay or a picture for three times and he will fill the shoe. And then at 5th of december he gives the presents to the whole family.Once this is over we put up the christmas tree.

We usually put our tree up the Saturday after Thanksgiving and take it down on the 26th. Last year we didnt have a tree our apartment was so tiny there wasnt room for one. So I am looking forward to really decorating this year. I think it is wonderful that you were able to bring happiness into your grand daughters life. Sometimes we dont realize the trying times kids go through. I dont think your crazy I think your just a great grandma.

If it takes a nutty person to do a nutty thing to make someone happy then I'm nutty too!! LOL You did the right thing by putting up your tree for your granddaughter. To heck with what people think! As long as it's not hurting anybody then do what you feel is right! Besides, if we all followed what everyone else thought is the right thing to do then we'd all lead a boring life. AND it's how things get started or thought of, by experimenting and doing things differently. So I say go for it and be happy!! LOL

I think you are an awesome grandmother. That is very sweet what you did for her. I am glad it made her happy. I think a lot of people put their trees up around this time. We usually do it on Thanksgiving, but with a 9 month old who loves to get into everything in the house I am not sure that is such a great idea.

That's Awesome. We usually don't get around to putting up our christmas tree (at least not fully decorated) until like about 2 weeks before Christmas Day. Procastination always seems to get the best of me.

Office Tree - Near my computer
She sounds like she was very happy. Maybe a new family tradition has started? I don't know if I'll have a tree due to dads hard time walking. But I know if I don't oput it up my wife and daughter will. HAHAHA! Here's the tree I have in my office on my filing cabinet every year. Santa has yet to leave a present under it though. Sigh!! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~
