Turducken

When I saw a recipe for Turducken on About.com, I was mystified. I had never heard of this dish so I was really curious to find out what it consisted of. Turns out it is a chicken stuffed inside of a duck, which is then stuffed inside a turkey-all with stuffing between the layers. It does sound quite good. I was wondering how many of you have heard of this unusual dish, and if you have ever made it.

Ah, sigma, you must like eating poultry as I do. I figure if I didn't like the duck I would just manage to eat around it, lol.

Sounds like it would be a poultry lover's dream to me, peavey. I suppose it all depends upon individual taste.

I have heard of it and how it was made but never attempted it myself. It does sound very interesting. Would be something I'd like to try at some point. I have an interesting receipe on my profile page. Feel free to take a peek. Have a great Thanksgiving.

I'm not very adventurous when it comes to foods, carolbee, but I do really like poultry, so I would try it.

I have seen them in the freezer section of the grocery store before. I also saw Paula Dean doing one of them on her Thanksgiving special on Food Network the other night. It sounds interesting, but seems just a little too complicated for the end result. Not worth the time if you are doing it yourself, but I guess it would be worth a shot to get one at the grocery store sometime.

I probably would have attempted it when I enjoyed cooking more, lilybug, but I do not cook so much anymore.

I had never heard of it until earlier when a poster posted they were going to Thanksgiving dinner where this was being served. I think it soulnd complicated to make! I have never had duck before so I don't know if I would like it or not.

I have never made it myself or have I ever eaten it before....but my bf has tried it.He said it was really good and all the meat was really juicy and flavorfull. It sounds like a lot of work to me and it would only be worth while if you are planning on feeding a lot of people.

I would agree, winky, that it would have to be reserved for a special occasion, but I really believe I would like it, lol.

My brother and his wife got one two years ago, they ordered it from somewhere online and all they had to do was heat it up. They said it was good but not really worth the bother or the price, they just wanted to try it out kind of out of curiosity. I've never eaten duck so I don't think it would be for me. Don't ask me why I have no problem eating poor chickens and turkeys, because I don't know!

It seems like quite a few people have a prejudice against eating duck, anniepa. I wonder if it is due to the fact that they are portrayed in such a different way than chickens and turkeys?

I have heard of it and saw it on a cooking show last week. I have never tried it though. It did look yummy though. Maybe some year when we have extra money we will give it a try.

I think we should all move out of our comfort zones, lightningMD, and try something new now and then.

Yes, carmelanirel, the mind can be truly creative at times! I'm a real foodie and like to watch cooking shows to keep up with what's going on in the food industry.
