What medicines have you taken that were worse than the disease?

Have you ever had adverse reactions to medications? I remember years ago my doctor prescribed Erythromiacin for bronchitis. That stuff made me sicker, dizzy, and caused me to totally space out. I broke out in a cold sweat, and my head started spinning. I was really out of it for a couple of hours. Never again.

Amoxicillian. For some reason they try to give it to me every time I have any infection. I cannot hold it down and end up throwing up for four hours to get it completely out of my system.

Tell them you are allergic to it. That should get their attention. Then explain that even if you aren't allergic, you cannot tolerate it. They can give you something else. It does not good to take a medicine if your body rejects it. I had surgery one time and had a bad reaction to the anesthia. I vomitted off and on for the next 24 hours -- keep in mind I had a fresh 5 inch incision just below my rib cage. When my doctor finally got around to checking on me, he said it was a common reaction and wrote a scrip for another medicine to control the vomiting.

Well, I have tried a few actually in my lifetime that did not work for me. Some of them, it may not have always been not at first, but there were problems. There are a few that I actually make sure and let Doctors know as they are common medications for things now. One I recently had problems with was Darvocet. It made me really sick to my stomach, and I felt out of it. I ended up falling and bruising my right ribs, etc. and they tried it for the pain, and it was not Good for me. One I definately will remember and NEVER take again. There are a few others, but it would take me too long to remember them all here so I can post them.

I have a list in my purse of meds that I have taken that I am deathly allergic too. Throat closing, arrest, rashes and hives and so forth.

I was having depression and anxiety and my doctor prescribed Paxil. I had to take a week off from work and I stil didn't feel good when I went back. I had a headache, my stomach hurt, one minute I wanted to lay down, feeling lethargic and depressed and the next minute I was so anxious I had to get up and do something, not a fun experience. I was afraid to try anything else after that experience. In fact I didn't try anything new until a few years later and finally got the right medicine.

I just got my leg skin crafted and the doctor prescibed oxycoton or perks, which ever you call them, he told me to take them for pain once a day, I took one the night I came home from the hospital and didn't remember a thing until the next day, these pills completely wiped me out, I was usless, could hardly talk, no appetite, and stomach cramps...called the doctor and asked him if I was taking a reaction to them and he says no that this is the side effects of the medication...I can handle a lot of pain before I would let these pills put me in a state of stuper....I still have a whole bottle here that will end up in the garbage...found out afterwards that these pills are a narcotic, and addictive...and also sell on the street for $5.00 to $10.00 per pill...why would a Doctor prescibe a medicine like this..?

Recently I had a bad bout of sciatica (an irritation of the large muscle or nerve that runs down your back, through your butt cheek and into your leg.) My doctor prescribed a muscle relaxant and ibuprofen. I've taken the ibuprofen before so it must have been the muscle relaxant that caused me to break out in a sweat and get sick to my stomach. My reaction was the same as yours, never again. But that might change when the pain gets to be too much. I believe Erythromiacin is an antibiotic so it seems there would be several alternatives that could be prescribed. Also, when my daughter's bronchitis gets really bad, she had to have an inhaler with albuterol. My granddaughter also uses the same medication to treat a lung condition she has. Both of them get spacy and jittery right after using it. Unfortunately, they don't have the option of toughing it out, they have to take the medication if they want to breathe.
