Do you think a woman should serve jail time for lying about her childs father?

If a man has to serve jail time for being deliquent on his child support payments, is it fair to say a woman should have to serve time for lying about who her childs father is?

There is a reason behind everything And she must be having one to hide the father's name! Lies merely cannot imprison you

I meant more like she lies and says a man is the father just so she can get child support. When she knows that there is a chance he is not the father. Some men may take a womans word for it and not question if the child is theirs. Then they may find out later that the child is not theirs, even though they have been taking care of the child. Thanks for your input Blessed Be :)

if a fraud has been commited then yes, however not everyone is comfortable naming the father of their child ( many dont even know) If no financial gain has been made by naming the wrong father i dont see why this should lead to imprisonment. Also, is it really so bad if it gains a few more cents for her to help bring up her child, isnt this just working towards the greater good?

Yes if they don't agree to pay restitution to the person who she framed in to paying for the baby all this time. She would get her wages garnished just like if he wouldn't have paid the child support. They should treat her the same way.

i don't think that it is right to lie to a man and say that he is the father if he is not. honestly i think that when you have a baby there should be some kind of dna test done right away it would make it so that you can't lie about your baby's daddy and some women just are not 100% sure so they wouldn't have to go their whole life not knowing the truth. as for jail time i don't think that it should be that extreme! my boyfriend was jumped robbed and stabbed by three people and only one of them went to jail for 6 months and the other two got probation so i don't think that it would be right to send someone to jail for something like that!!

To me it depends on her reason. If she dosnt know who the father is then I dont see why she would go to jail if she just guessed. Ihere is a diffrence tho. Men who dont pay there child support are avoiding there parental responsibility. That is why they go to jail. They are responsible for that child as much as the mother is. For a mother to lie about paternity she has her reasons and shouldent go to jail.

I don't think the woman should have to serve time. However, if she is getting child support and the father paying it is not the biological father, she should have to pay back retribution for all the child support she did get.
