I wonder why so many foreigners speak english while in China?

I am a Chinese girl who is struggling with english and have less opportunity to speak out.I think it is the disadvantage to learn english in the no-english speaking country.I cherish every chances of communicating with people in english.And i made acquaintance with a foreign friends,whose Chinese is awefully bad while staying in China for more than 2 years.And i feel very regretful for him ,for he said he wants to learn Chinese well but he never speak with his friends and the people around him in Chinese.Why,if i were him i will desperately speak whenever there is oppotunity.And it is the usual case to meet friegn students in our school speaking in English.I think they should not feel embarrased to speak Chinese in such a atomosphere where people all speak Chinese.And perhapse when they make funny mistakes , Chinese people will help them correct and even make some chinese friends!

Hi fangzi.
Don't feel down my friend, I think the effective methodological learning language and to lure people learning other language is to create their love in learning. It just like we go to school, the syllabus of it and not through or by jump straight away to the translations of words. As it has to be followed by grammar learning and practice.
Back to our infant life, after birth we have ears but with no hearing and we have eyes with no sight. The first 7 days our hearing sense break up for hearing and another 7 days for 14th. of day after birth our physical eyes have sight vision. The sense syllabus of learning. Step-by-step and the effective steps.
Same thing happen to learn English language, there are many words that have same vowel but with many different meanings and to differentiate it is by texts and spelling.
The perfect and effective syllabus will create great love in learning any language. And I believe that you have a good syllabus to teach Chinese language...cheers!!!

Thanks very much for your encouragement!And I really have a passion for learning english,and to communicate with friends worldwide is fantastic!I will try my best to seek the good methodology to learn it well .And i have confidence,for nothing will stop a strong will !
