If you are still wondering why the Oil Companies see no reason to lower the price of their products... take a look at the highways this week. If we can't seem to burn it fast enough, why should they feel any need to make it cheaper for us to do it?

I am not too sure what you mean: "burn it fast enough"? Who wants to travel with the prices being so high..I went to put $20 gas and got about 6 gallons.. You have to be wealthy right now to afford to drive.

Who wants to? Like I said, look out on the highways and in the airports this week. There will be countless exhibits in the "can't burn it fast enough" museum.

Exxon, made the most money in a finacial quarter/year of any USA corporation during the peak of the Iraq crises. Note, too, that Iran and Iraq make a lot more money when uncertainity drives up the price of oil. Does anyone other than me sometimes think President Bush and Middle east oil suppliers are probably both playing this angle of the middle east conflict to make money for their friends and themselves? I'm not saying they are conspiring together, just that there is a mutual benefit that is determental to the people on both sides of the conflict.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with XOM making record profits. I am seriously considering becoming a stockholder. What I was trying to point out is that some of the elites in the USA have more in common with the elites of Middle Eastern countries than their fellow Americans and mutually benefit finacially as to the situation going on in the Middle East. Think about that for awhile. It should give you serious food for thought in helping to understand why this mess is not cleaned up faster. I'll put this simply. Question: What does Iraq, Iran, and the USA oil companies all have in common? Answer: The longer the middle east crises takes to solve, the more money they all make. Given the influence on the current USA administration by the USA oil companies, the reasons for the ineffective rules of engagement among other things helping to prevent the US military from completing its job, start to make some sense. If this all seem far fetched, just follow the axiom, "FOLLOW THE MONEY".

I guess you would have to see something wrong with a company making record profits. It's ironic, people will strike, beg, borrow or even go to college in order to increase their bottom line... but if a corperation has the gall to do the same thing (in its own way), they cry FOUL.

D o we really know how much the usage in other countries like China effects us and what prices are they paying.? We just conserve and cut back on our driving but what happens when even that is not enough because the prices are so high?

Yes, prices will be high now that the people of China and India have discovered how great it is to own a car. My point though is, with all the whining about the price of gas, we don't seem to let it slow us down, so why should the oil companies lower the price for us?

Then nothing will change anytime soon.We love our cars and we are not going to change.

It seems so! So why blame the Oil Companies for overcharging us, when we are so willing to pay it?

I don't blame the oil companies, it is a waste of time.

Para, I can't afford to go to see family, but if I was not working..I would be going to see them. Dad is 89..Mom is 81 ..mmm - let's see --- should I save money or go see Mom and Dad. Trust me, if I took work out of the picture it would be a no brainer - go see Mom and Dad and sis and the kids.

I'm not saying the price of gas isn't high, Deb. I'm just pointing out that we, as a society give little incentive for the oil companies to lower the prices.

I feel every year is going to be a new record for travel. There are so many younger people on the road everyday so how could there not be more travelers. People are going to travel no matter what the price of gas is. If they can afford it. Bush needs to stop lining his pockets and do something. In my opinion anyway.

It is not "US" that need to be saved. It is the one and only ignorant president we have in this country. Again....In my opinion

The oil companies have the people in a bind. They know that we have to use their product so they can price it any way that they see fit. They know they aren't going to lose business so they just continue to rip of the people. I wish there was a way that we could do something, but other than a strike on the use of their product (which will never happen)then we are just stuck paying what they jack the prices up to.

That's the thing, Armywifey, almost all the driving and flying this weekend will be by choice, not by necessity. It is projected that this will be a record travel year. If we are willing to pay record prices for discretionary fuel use, there is no reason at all for them to believe us when we say we can't afford it.
