How many of you have been through or about to head into a career change? What did you do to go about changing your career path? I have a degree in English, but have been working banking for the past 3 years. I do not think I want to do this for the long haul so I am researching other avenues as far as careers go to look into.

I have spent most of my working life in customer services, but decided for a big career change, it was a big gamble to throw in my job at 32 and start again, by going back to college. I wanted to study childcare I had a natural talent working with children and I spent three years working with children I loved it, trouble is because I am a bloke there is still a lot of discrimination and hostility towards men working with children, so I gave up, I am going back to office work again and besides the money was diabolical for looking after children, it was a disgrace.

I plan to take some career assessment inventories to see where I stand. I would have gone into teaching, but too much trouble for me and I do not think I would like it. I do not agree with teaching to a test which my friends who are teachers have been stuck doing and do not like doing that. I have never believed in standardized testing so that would be a road block there.

I used to be a hair dresser a few years ago and made the career change to Early Childhood Education. I'm now a preschool teacher and have been doing this for almost three years. I love it and was even namd 'Teacher of the Year' for my county last year. It's been very rewarding for me to be a teacher, more so than with hair. Hair was fun, but I'm getting more from this. I have a degree in Cosmetology and made switch to Early Childhood. I take classes when I can and I hope to have my degree in a few years.

In my opinion, to change career especially after one have been in the industry for years take great courage, determination and detachment. I wanted to have a career switch, I weighed the pros and cons, and I am still stuck in my industry. If only I have lots of Vitamin M, I would have started all over again with a career switch.

I started out working in the banking field. I ended up to be in used car sales. If you know banking you can do just about anything because everything requires some type of finance. That was my specialty in used cars, special finance. Good luck to you!
