i've been thinking a lot lately about my teeth and i think i need to schedule a cleaning with my dentist, which made me wonder, what do people use often, toothpicks or dental floss? and if floss, do you use it regularly or only at times when something is stuck in between your teeth. do you think you have healthy teeth and gums, how can you tell?

I floss daily at least once a day and usually at night. It keeps my gums healthy and prevents plaque buildup from all my eating, coffee and smoking. I try to take good care of my teeth because dental work can really be expensive.

Toothpick is what I mostly use, it is always available here in our house. I have used dental floss though, but it's still the same as toothpick!LoL I have regular visits with my dentist, that I can atleast check my teeth and gums regularly. I have teeth extraction on my lower jaws, that I guess mine was not that healthy!:(

you know what raijin, i am really scared of dentists. because when i was 13, i had an appointment with the dentist for the whole 2 months!!! imagine. that was every week! cleaning, fillings, drilling. uhhh. even thinking about it now makes me wanna close my ears LOL. i had a sweet tooth when i was a kid. well more like a sweet mouth. hahaha. never had a tooth extracted though. so i guess my teeth are still in good position!! ummm

I don't usually use toothpicks nor dental floss. I seldom use toothpicks, only when I have something in between my teeth. sometimes I don't even bother to remove them. LOL I wait until the time of my brushing. good thing they are easily removed through brushing. ^__^ and then I only used floss when my dentist recommended it. that's when I had problems with my side teeth. I know I have weak gums and teeth because my dentist said so. I believe her. so I use her recommended toothpaste which is pyodontyl to prevent toothache. ^__^

dear menctomas, really the best thing is to floss in between your teeth, twice a day if possible, or if once, do it before bedtime. also toothpicks are alright at a restaurant, but they leave behing wood splinters, or could leave them behind...your gums should have a healthy pink color to them at all times, and your breath should be fresh as much as possible. your teeth are also a reflection of the general state of the rest of your body, so keep them nice, to keep the rest of you well...stanzi

thanks stanzi. i've run out of floss just at the beginning of this week. keep forgetting to get some from the supermarket!!! thank goodness that my breath is freash all the time. i brush quite often during the day. can't stand people with bad breath.(ummmm) my gums are pink (looking in the mirror no. hehehe.) anyway i am not much for toothpicks though. hard to use at the back teeth. carmen
