Do your colleagues stress you out?

Stress - An image representing stress

I just had a conversation with someone at work who's rather stressed at the moment because of a colleague and, by coincidence, I've just read an article in a journal about recent research about people being stressed by their colleagues. I get on well with my colleagues and none of them cause me any stress. Do you have a similar working relationship or do your colleagues stress you out? For those of you who are interested, the original article is below: --------------- Workers 'stressed by colleagues'. Millions of workers get stressed out because of "infuriating" behaviour by some of their colleagues, according to a new report. A list of complaints compiled by the Britannia building society includes using other people's possessions, pulling a sickie, talking loudly and leaving desks in a mess. A survey of 2,100 workers also found that three out of five accuse colleagues of claiming the credit for work someone else had done. The study suggests that employees spend five minutes a day moaning about colleagues' "anti-social behaviour" in the office. Tim Franklin, of Britannia, said: "It's concerning to see that so many of us are affected by the unfair behaviour of people at work. "Considering we spend a large percentage of our time at work it's worryingly that nearly all of us feel stressed and annoyed by the people we work with. "Anti-social behaviour is not only affecting the health of the nation but our economy too." Workers in East Anglia spend the most time moaning about their colleagues, while those in the North East are least affected, although they are most likely to pull a sickie, according to the study. Many years ago I worked in a very busy office with a large number of staff. While I enjoyed my job, there were a couple of staff who seemed to delight in causing aggrevation for everyone else and it soon reached a stage where their behaviour was causing a great deal of stress and upset for the rest of us. The whole atmosphere in the office changed and eventually the management realised that things were getting to a point where the majority of the staff were miserable and unhappy. It took a long time after the two *aggrevating* staff were removed before the old happy atmosphere returned. Stress in the workplace is more common that people think hun, you are so lucky to be in a place where you are happy.

Stress comes under my health and safety remit at work so I'm quite aware of how big a problem it is - a big problem is that people usually try to hide the fact that they're stressed; making it hard to help them. Thanks for your response.

That's good! I think it would be a real nightmare to work with people who cause you stress.

Thanks for your response. I guess I'm lucky where I work at the moment although I've never been all that stressed by the people I work with - the times when I've been stressed have been due to too high a workload.
