According to Japanese legend, you'll please the gods by folding 1000 paper cranes and then be granted a wish. I've started mine around 8 months ago and i need less than a hundred to get a wish. Most people who do attempt to fold 1000 cranes are ill and wish for recovery. I on the other hand did it out of boredom and so I've temporarily stopped because I still can't think of a worthy wish. Have any of you completed reached 1000? Did you do all the cranes by yourself?

I have a few questions? 1. What are paper cranes? 2. How do you fold them? 3. What type of paper should be used? I am interested in making 1000 and wish that i will not lose my job, which i love very much... can you please answer the questions above...

Directions for Folding Origami Cranes - Not nearly as difficult as the graphic shows!
Cranes For Peace http://www.planetpals.com/IKC/peacecrane.html is a website that offers free instructions for folding paper cranes. It also tells you how and where to mail them. This was a project started for children in remembrance of Hiroshima. This is a "cut and paste" blurb from the site: Fun ideas to make with the PEACE CRANE: * Add a string and make it into an ornament * Add a pin back and wear it as a "pin for peace". * Hang them from your school backpack * Decorate your book covers * Make several cranes and string them to make a "peace mobile" * Make many and give them to friends as "Peace Gifts" * Organize a "thousand cranes project" in your school! Bring it to someone in the hospital! OR Donate it to the 1,000 crane project. The directions look very complicated, but it is very simple once you master a few easy techniques. If you are interested, I recommend a visit to the local library to check out some origami books. Also, you don't want to spend a fortune on origami paper right off the bat, just use whatever you have on hand for practice. I fold any paper that I get into my grubby paws~Donna

Paper (Origami) Cranes - Origami Cranes - These are made into a mobile
Yes, Dianne, I have folded way more than 1000 cranes. In fact, many years ago I decorated my holiday tree, the doorways, the windows, etc. with nothing but cranes and lights. I looked when I saw your post but I have not bookmarked the site and it will take a bit of digging for me to find the hard copy information that I did save but; there is a website that you can send 1000 cranes to for the benefit of a cause (and I can't remember what it is) in Japan. I will have to do a search now. Darn it - you made my brain work~Donna
