Well some good news and some not so good news abiut my wife being a Bone Marrow Donor. FedEx dropped off 2 packages today. This photo shows all the paper work and the 8 tubes of blood samples to be drawn. She also has to have a complete physical as well as a chest x-ray and an EKG. That's all set up for next weekend. Now the blood samples to be drawn are a different story. Better than face the last problem we had at our Clinics lanb I called in advance to speak and explain the situtaion and types of samples etc. Well these samples have to be shipped on dry ice and cooling gel packs and our clinic doesn't do that. I called the University of Michigan Cancer Center to get ahold of the right woman but alas she is out of the offuiice till Monday. I tried calling the University of Minnesota Hospital to see about if they do thids type of shipping blood samples but there was never an answer. So now it's sit and wait till Monday at the earliest to find out from the University of Michigan where at in Minnesota she can have this lab work done and shipped the correct way. Our clinics lab had no idea where to get this done. I feel that's pretty incompatent on their behalf as they being a lab should offer other labs where this type of work and shipping is done. But oh well. When oh when does all this stress end damn it. It's really racj=king my brain as of late. I do all this as my wife is really bad dealing with the stressfullness of things along these lines. HAHAH. Oh lucky me huh? Well that's iy in a nutshell for now. I don't think I'd go through all this if it wasn't a relative. This is a lot of paperwork and blood etc. But it is a life saving deal possibly for anyone that dores donate bone marrow. Thanks all for once again allowing me to ramble on and on. HAHAHA! Happy Thanksgiving All Americans! And others that may celebrate this day.

Oh my. That does sound like a bad deal. I hope that your wife can get this out in the dry ice. I find it astounding that the clinic your accustomed to doesn't ship things in that manner being that they are a medical facility and they take blood. Just my thinking, maybe I am way off on that. I am sure the University Hospitals do, it's just getting someone to get an answer to you! Well, hopefully Friday or Monday will bring you the answers that you seek. Keep us updated and I will keep praying!

yeah it's frustrating to say the least wondering who and
where to get the blood drawn. Just wait it out till an
answer comes around I guess. Thanks.

Oh dear why am I not suprised (yes ok its America and America is not Australia but both systems have a long way to go). Why would there not be someone that can talk to you and direct you to the right place. No wonder people dont donate more (it is a pain the the behind thats why) I would have imagined that she would have recived all the proper info and all but I guess human life has no such value. If I was to chase around a plumer and go throu this I would have given up but we are talking about saving someone..

That's what I waited for all day was a return call from the University Of Michigan. But being so close to the holiday here there was noone left in the offices. So like I said it'll be Friday or Monday at the earliest. Her physical isn't till next Wed so we can't send things before then anyhow. So it's all a waiting game for now as usual.

Wow! Jeepers grandpa Bob, that's a whole lot of work to prepare! What a wonderful thing though what your wife is doing. Another person gets a new shot at a good life just because of her donation of bone marrow, and that is a personal sacrifice that not a lot of people would do (for a relative, or otherwise.) Blessings to you and your wife for your most gracious gift of giving. Good luck to all of you!

This is pretty crappy that the clinic don't know how to send your wifes blood samples off, & quickly too. You would think they would be set up for urgent situations like this. They must be a bit backward in their procedures. I bet the hospital waiting for them are not happy.
You may end up having to write an official letter of complaint about this.
Your wife is doing a very good thing, & her brother wont stay alive forever waiting for these samples to eventuate.

It's a small lab and they do their own testing there. They very very seldom ship blood samples out of State. they don't have dry ice or cold packs available to them easily is the problem. I understand this. But the fact they have NO IDEA where she could get it drawn and shipped as requested is what's annoying. Thanks bunches.

Have you tried contacting the National Bone Marrow Registry? They should be able to put you in contact with a lab in your area that ships blood samples. They have a website that may be able to help you. It is www.marrow.org. You can try them as they should have tons of resources since they are nation wide.
You could also try Labcorp.com. They are a pretty big laboratory corporation. They have labs all over the country. I know they take samples here Texas and can ship them out where ever they need to. Also, most big hospitals should be able to either take care of the samples for you or know where you can get in touch with someone.
Have you tried contacting a medical shipping service? The major hospitals should be able to put you in touch with one and any medical supply company worth it's salt is going to have the supplies you need. Just a suggestion.
Good luck with everything and your wife is an angel.

It is a grueling experience to go through, and it is frustrating to have to experience that. I pray that everyone pulls through this and that there will be an improvement in their system for future donors. I will pray for your wife and for all to go well.

A + rating for this discussion GP Bob! I haven't read previous posts, so I am assuming that your wife is going to be a donor for you? Wow! What a gift! I think that most of us say that we would do that for our spouse, child, grandchild; but I've often wondered if actually put to the test, would we truly be willing to go through with it? Goddess Blessings to both of you. I hope to be reading more of this story. Is she a member of MyLot? I would like to add her as a friend also. ~Donna

Hi Grandpa Bob,
I'm certainly very sorry to hear about this latest problem. I guess when I think about it though, it doesn't surprise me that 'your clinic' doesn't have a clue who to refer you to. Look at the way they handled the situation with your wife, when she was there not long ago! I do hope and pray, that you get this resolved as soon as the holiday weekend is over. I've rated your photo, and placed a comment there as well. I'm sorry that you're continually going through all of this stress.
I've had a 'stressful day' here too, as it turns out, as stated in my latest discussion. There's just too much stress in life, at times.
Have a wonderful thanksgiving, and eat lots of 'comfort food.':) We've already celebrated ours in October.

It's not totally resolved. We also have her family making phone calls Friday morning as well along the lines of the shipping etc. It's just a matter of finding where to have the samples drawn and shipped from is all. It'll all work out. She has her Ohysical on Wed so as long as we hear somerhing by that day will be okay. Her brother also has to have tests done Wed as well so things are moving. Once the paperwork and these last samples are sent and or faxed then within 3 weeks she will be flying out to her brothers side.

What a shame you have to go to so much bother. You'd think they'd have had everything set up for you with instructions where to send it from, etc. It can really be a pain on a holiday weekend like this, the whole world pretty much shut down today until Monday. I have to tell you again what a wonderful thing you and your wife are doing! I hope everything goes great. Happy Thanksgiving!

Just about any major surgery requires filling out tons of paperwork. Shoot, I'd rather go thru the paperwork of buying a house again than having surgery done. Things will get better for ya down the road, Grandpa Bob. Just gotta look ahead and find the right path is all. Have a great Thanksgiving!!!!

She's only worried about having to fly there alone is all. The procedure and all isn't stressing her out. Just being alone for the flight and away from me for a week or more. Hee hee. She loves me.
