The young and general respect for others.

Is it me or are we all falling into a trap of blaming everyone else for evey small problem we encounter? With each passing day I see calls for more rules and regulations to control the young and their perceived lack of respect for their elders and 'betters'. David Cameron (Leader of the Conservative party in the UK) has called for school kids to stand when an adult enters the classroom. Now is this type of rule going to instill respect in the young or is it simply a 'soundbite' idea designed to make us think that our children being made to stand when an adult enters a room? Surely we need to start with us as adults an seek basic levels of respect to be shown by us as an example to our children etc? To me we need (or some of us at least) to show our youngsters a better example. This might involve the difficult prospect of not threatening to kill the next person who cuts you up on the road or, heaven forbid calling the referee something unmentionable the next time he gives a decision against your beloved sporting team!!
