From my childhood I always use the desktop because from my point a view if you want to learn computer u always use desktop.actually the fact is that when you are going to learning something new you will face various types of problem.when u are going to over come your problem so many times your computer will be damaged. if your desktop is damaged then you can learn computer to repair your computer because desktop is not as sensitive as laptop. but lap top is too much sensitive thing.you cant handle it properly for your learning.i never say don't to use the laptop.actually i am trying to say that use the laptop after using desktop properly.

Best to start learning computers with a desktop. Not necessarily learning programming, but the hardware. The desktop shows the new user all the parts separated from each other which makes learning how to troubleshoot much easier (mouse doesnt work? unplug it and try a new one. hard disk problem? check it out easily for yourself). Once the new user gets a feel of the using the computer, going to laptops would be much easier. On the other hand, there are people who really do not care about how the computer works, they just want to use it. Not all car users like to be a mechanic. Some (if not most) just want to ride on it and finish the job as quickly as possible. So there may be people who would prefer laptops since it is portable, and nowadays, laptops are as powerful as the regular desktops. If that is the case, it will be the preference of the user. Me... I prefer laptops. You can also strip the laptop down as easily as the desktop so there is no issue there. Although, you dont have that many slots as the desktop for upgrade........ but that's a different story

My answer is better to use laptop BECAUSE laptop can be transform into desktop to for LAPDESK Computer. By connecting the external keyboard, hub extension and all related peripherals it can be much better than desktop or laptop alone, respectively. Talking about learning computer, the hardware is not the major reason to place our choosy attitude. Both are beneficial towards learning and practicing the programs available in the C hard disk. As an user, mu opinion, no need to that extend to learn how to repair BUT the imperative thing is knowing how to make routine computer maintenance works such as; disk clean up and defragment. And to get my computer does it very well I use FREE online maintenance support rather than using the available stored maintenance program; http://www.defraggler.com HAPPY DAPPY.

Desktops are better for learning, because you may make many mistakes, crash the hard drive, drop the processor, etc. and you can also learn how to fix them. You can open the case of a desktop and put in a hard drive and a cd drive, but for a laptop, you need a professional to do it. When you get better, then you can buy a laptop because you know enough not to slam it around, have the cord dangling over so someone will trip over, etc.

I think both are equally reliable to learn the computer. If you are talking about computer basic then as the both contain same features and same windows system. It is almost the same if you got laptop or desktop in front of you. The difference they make is the size.

I don't really understand your logic... Both laptop and desktop are reliable enough to learn about computer... The only reason why a person should choose a desktop is because he wants to see in his own eyes, the various components that made up the system and how they work....Of course, you can do that also for the laptop, but opening it up is much more tedious...

But chunter dear I have heard that being sophisticated the laptops are a risky lot in this regard. We must know to use computers before using the laptops. The desktops are capable of handling more tortures than the laptops.

yup i totally agree with you even if we want to learn how to drive we ll first learn on maruti or zen rather than going for skoda or other big car. same way i think to learn aboy computers it should start on the desk top rather than a laptop. Moreover on desktiop things are more simplified that laptop where they are more complicated and sensitive.

For beginners Desktop is better. You can learn more in desktop. because if you made some mistake you can try yourself to correct your problem.

I think you should start working on desktop computers before you begin using laptop in your case. Yeah right laptop is very sensitive comparing to desktop computers where you may also able to upgrade its parts just in case you want it to be more faster when using heavy applications such as AutoCad or any 3D rendering applications.

I agree with you. If you really want to learn computer, the best way is to use a desktop computer. You can learn how to install the hardware. Whereas the laptop can't let you open it unless you are an expert.

Hi,there! Well,I agree with some of your points. Generally speaking, desktop is more stable. If we wanna learn sth about the hardware or fixing the computer, then it's better to use a desktop. But for daily life,I don't think there have any distances in reliability. Moreover,I think laptop is just very convenient and it's easy to carry when we're not in the office, such as go for a business travel and so on.On the other side,it feels better to type with the keyboard of a laptop:) Have a good day!

I agree with you.As laptop is the more sophisticated one , it needs to b handled with lot of care, so after learning the basics of computer properly with desktop one should begin using laptop ... thanks for the discussion

One of the best ways I have found to become better at fixing computers is experimenting with old machines. Older desktop machines are generally more common to get your hands on for little or no money (the garage, friends, work, recycling websites etc), and are easier to get at the different components (usually!) You can learn a lot from reading, but there is no substitute for real "hands on" experience, particularly with an older machine which you can make, break and repair. Once you feel more confident then moving to the cramped, hot and inaccesible inside of a laptop should be easier for fixing purposes. In terms of using and working/gaming/surfing on, then it is a matter of personal preference. I personally like the screen to be a bit further a way so a desktop suits me better!

Well you got some points but as for me it totally depends on how you handle your pc. I think if you're looking at the hardware desktop is indeed easier to repair and replace parts for a desktop. But if you look at the point of view of mobility, convenience, and the wireless technology laptop is the best choice over desktop. When it comes to software Laptop and Desktop uses the same technology.

for the past 6 years I always use computer desktop, I found it really useful because it made my tasks easily to be done and that I could create something that is very useful for me as a student. But this time as I am taking my computer course in college I found computer desktop is not really useful that I can't easily transport it to other places for a group project development with my classmates as a team. That's why now I am using laptop and I can now more easily productive in my projects in different places.

Hello and Hi supriyorajj. Actually it does not matter for which type of computer we want to have for our learning, either for laptop or desktop. But for easy mobility use, better to have laptop as it can be carried along with us and anywhere we go. HAPPY LUCKY. **prettyhanan**

After familiar with desktop and laptop, the next level would be using palm computer or personal assistant computer. Technology keep advancing nowadays. At the moment, there is a new technology named OfficeStation which can replace desktop in a office network, and help in cut cost and save energy. Pretty cool stuff.

I once used a desktop, but my school is faraway from my home, so I had to carry it all along to school, that is really very inconvenient, now I've got a laptop. I can't handle the transportation by my own, which is very convenient, I do think the laptop is better than the desktop.
