HELLO?!? Do I LOOK Like a Guy?!?

For Thanksgiving I went to Jack in the Box (even though my family and I had plans to go elsewhere, but that's a different story). So as I went to through the drive thru, I pulled up to the window and paid for my order. As the man gave me back my ATM card and receipt he said "Thank you sir." I was a little taken aback as I certainly wasn't expecting to be called a sir :P, but he quickly fixed his mistake and said "ma'am". Okay, so I don't wear makeup (I hate spending money on myself, plus I don't want to wear lead products anyway) and I was wearing a bulky sweater, but does this make me a dude? Or do you think it was just the slip of the tongue? After all, this guy probably says "ma'am" and "sir" 100 times a day , if not more. What do you think? Side note: For those of you that don't already know this the girl in my avatar is me, taken a few months ago, if this makes any difference. So, have you ever been mistaken for the wrong gender? :P

Was he gay? YOU, looking like a guy, thats if my eyes can no longer see. You look HOT, and can't be mistaken for a guy. I think he made a mistake, it happens often.

If you think about it as you said here this man sees a whole lot of customers during the process of his shift. You by no means look even close to a guy. He probably didn't look very hard out his window when he handed you your ATM card back. I would say it is a honest mistake and don't worry about it. I have never had this happen to me.

Wow, I wonder how he made that mistake, I sure wouldn't, even if I was blind. Luckily I haven't come across him, or I'd be a ma'am.

Maybe he read the name on your card and he thought it was a guy's name. Does your name sound like a guy's? And if that's really you in the avatar, you should try sending it to Sports Illustrated. You could make lots of money.

Nope, my name doesn't sound like a guys. And yes, that really is me in the avatar. Really? I never gave it much thought in sending my picture in. Thanks for the compliment! :)

You are just hot ;)He could have not even looked at you probably. There were times that i witnessed when people slip their toungues in regard to gender. There were some time in my class, when students answered the attendance "Present mam" (a male teacher in the class).

Thank you sandeep,. You are very sweet for saying so. :) I've seen other people being mistaken for the wrong gender before, including my oldest son as his hair can get pretty long at times (shoulder length). I just never expected it to happen to me, especially since my hair is almost to my waist now.

I don't think you were mistaken for a guy. It probably was a slip of the tongue since the person immediately corrected himself. It happens all the time for me...especially from people who have to say sir and ma'am a thousand times a day. I usually ignore it even if they don't correct themselves.

Many say it is a slip of the tongue but I beg to differ. I would think it is sort of a "mechanical" reply from the cashier. It shows how much he loves his job :P

Wow! No I don't think you look like a guy at all! lol. I'm guessing that had to be a slip of the tongue! Like you said, he always has to say "sir" and "ma'am" all day to every costumer, he probably just said the wrong one for you (knowing the whole time that you were a girl). I have been mistaken for a boy before, but only when I was really little. My mom would always get my hair cut really short, so I don't blame people lol. But now, I control my hair...so people always know I'm a girl now! lol.

Yep, and he still said sir. LOL I think one of the reasons my mom decided to let my grow out longer when she did was because she liked dressing my sister and I alike when we were little (even though we are 2 1/2 years apart) and since my sister's hair was long (past the shoulders) mine had to match for that 'twin' look my mom was going for. LOL

My mom kept my hair short as well when I was little (3 years old and under). I personally don't like having short hair (anything shorter than shoulder length is too short for me :P). My hair is longer now than it was a few months ago, when my avatar's picture was taken. This is one of the reason's why I was taken back at being mistaken for a guy. :P LOL

My mom kept my hair short up until she could no longer make me get it cut! lol. I usually keep mine about shoulder length too, but now I'm growing it out long, hopely like yours. You hair was that long and he still said sir? lol. It HAD to be a slip, I really think you knew you were a girl, just had a dumb moment lol.

ha ha ha... with such a nice figure, how could he have mistaken you for a dude? I guess it is a slip of tongue. I was once working in a fast food joint as well. And having served too many male customers, I actually addressed a lady in a pretty dress sir as well. Boy was she mad at me. I had to apologize to her so many times before she is satisfied enough to leave the counter with her food! Heh heh... guess it is a auto reflex. When you are doing something once too many times, you just reflexively do it again the next time you have to do it. So I guess this fella said one too many "sir" that he just automatically said it out without thinking whether it is right or wrong till the words came out of his mouth! Take it with a pinch of salt. ;)

Hello sacmom. It is interesting that the guy greeted you Sir. I don't know what was your first reaction about that. I hope that you didn't mind too much about his greeting you like that. I should say that he was too careless as to have made such a mistake. I am glad to say that I have never been mistaken for the wrong gender, but I have mistaken one of the girl students in our school, who looks like a boy. lol.

I bet this guy is a joker who gets a kick out of this. If you had just been quick enough you could have replied," Your so welcome Lady!" Yah I've been secretly admiring your Avatar. I often wonder why men (myself in particular) are so conscious of a nice set of milkers? Would you have any ideas? Lets just say," Thats a very fetching Picture!"

I don't think he was that type of guy. He was an older man that looked like he wasn't paying attention to what was going on (other than the usual routine of receiving payments and handing out the food). I'm guessing he got a little embarrassed by his mistake because he had someone else hand me my order! LOL Yes, I thought the same thing, and had he not corrected himself so quickly I would have said just that! :P LOL I have no idea why men are so conscious of such a thing. But thanks for the compliment! :)

When I saw this discussion and that it was you I couldn't believe that it happened. He might have just been in the groove and not paying attention. I rarely wear makeup and wear big bulky sweaters too. But when I have short hair I totally feel like I look like a man. I am very tall too. But there is no way you look like a man. Nope!

You are absolutely sexy, and I want to encourage you to feel and remain just yourself-if skipping make ups and those beauty items women like is what you like, just go after your heart sacmom-and ofcourse, if your hubby or boy friend has no problem about your not using make ups, why should you bother?

I think he probably just said it before he even realized what he said. He see's so many people through the drive thru he probably just says sir a lot and it just slipped out instead of ma'am. I have had instances when I didn't know if it was a man or woman but by looking at your avatar I can tell that you are a woman. So I think it was probably just a mistake and he didn't realize what he was saying until after he had said it.

Well, i think iw was just a slip of the tongue... maybe a lot of guys went before that is why he became so used to using Sir... that would always happen to me when i was still working as a service crew at a fast food chain... then again as a waitress in a restaurant... it is so impossible for a woman to be mistaken as a man even without make up...

I think it's definitely possible that it was completely a mistake. Especially if the 3 or 4 cars in front of you were men. When you work the drive thru you get into a rhythm and sometimes it happens. I've never been mistaken for a guy, but when I was with my ex, we'd get "what can I get you ladies to drink?" and similar questions at restaurants when we went out. His hair is longer than mine, and usually the server seemed to approach the table from behind him for the first time. It was funny as he!!. He laughed about it, too.
