what will one language change in the world? what present conditions can be changed by having one language? of course, communication will be faster and interaction will be loaded. more traffic in the communication channels. we can think of many good things that can happen if we have one common language. but i doubt if the communication brought about by that one language will be more meaningful. what i know is that even people with the same language seldom engage in a meaningful communication. i think it is not a language issue, although it will help tremendously, it is a lack of desire to connect and communicate. at times, we find ourselves with sincere desire to connect with people from foreign countries who speak different language. since it takes an effort, the spirit and essence of communication are there.

I'm all for one language but of course it would have to be English! I'm too old to learn a new one.

well it used to be that the world only had one language. if you read the bible, you probably know of what happened to the people--they conspired against God and thought that they can outsmart them. they built the tower of babel in order to reach heaven and take over God. but God confused their languages and so their plan failed.
so i guess, if it happened in the past, who knows what evil can human kind conjure. so things would not exactly be easier. :-)
goodd discussion spiderlizard! :-)

Maybe, but we must not forget that all the languages in the world are a mark of the cultures they represent so no country wants to lose it's unique language. It may be easier to communicate but I don't think that everyone in the world would agree changing the main language of the country.

Life would definitely be easier if there were only one language the problem is that it would be impossible to teach every single person in the world a new language. Also, most people have pride in their country's language. Not many people would want to give it up.
