I am having a problem shopping for my eight year old little girl. She is wanting dolls and play things of that sort. I feel as though she is a bit too old for things of that nature. I try to show her things that are more her age but she is very stubborn. She already has a whole mess of baby dolls and such which I always am having to pick up. Any suggestions on gifts geared towards an eight year old girl?

Personally I think you should let her decide what she wants. I have a 15 year old I get his Christmas list now and I wish for the days when he wanted Tonka trucks and matchbox cars. They grow up so fast all on their own, don't push her too, one day it will break your heart that she doesn't want a baby doll any more. As you look at her list of I-pods, CDs and money for her car.

Thank you for your comment. I know that she should decide for herself. But on the other hand I am afraid that other children will begin to tease her and make fun of her for acting younger than she is. I even bought her an ipod and her own cell phone she enjoys both very much. She just has way too many dolls now as it is. I suppose I could maybe ask her to weed out the ones she doesn't like so well to make room for others. Bad thing about that is that I have a feeling that all her dolls are her favorites and she will not want to get rid of any of them.

8 years old is still a very young child and should be allowed to be a young 8 year old! I would get her the doll of her choice as that is obviously where her interest is. who cares what others think, she is a little girl. why does it seem that so many people want their kids to "grow up ' so soon? A cell phone for an 8 year old? oh my! my 8 year old would not dream of such a thing, and if she did i would laugh my head off. :-) The best gift for your girl is the one she really wants. As for her not picking up her other dolls... well, your the mom, she's the child, you have the ultimate say on that one. good luck!

I did just pick up an american girl doll for her that is what she really wanted and it too will be a collectable for her someday. The only reason for her to have a cellphone is because she can call me if her different sport practices let her out early she can call me to pick her up. It is only a prepaid one and I put minutes on it periodically.

well as amom of an 8 yr old wel actually she will be 8 in jan , but she asked for a cabbage patch newborn and a barbie car and some new barbies cause ven to BRATZ are geared toward girls her age ther is no way on god green earth ill let my daughter play with them not even the generic ones LOL and she knows it :P hmm so the fact that my lil girl is asking for a cabbage patch and barbies should i be worried ?? hmm no i dont think so she told me the other night she wanted to be like her friend from school and i told her that would make me very sad cause then i wouldnt have MY lil girl any more ,that i would have somone elses and that woundt seem fair ... she seemed to get the idea , besides have you ever thought that maybe that your daughter just may wanna collect dolls ? my daughter has already shown interst in the collectible birthstone barbies i wish i could afford to buy them for her and her lil sis but ya know how that goes lol maybe next year ... hey if not ther is always ebay and i know it may seem a lil harsh but this society make us think our kids need to grow up so fast but they dont LOL just remeber better to have you lil girl be play with baby dolls than raising real ones ;) ~M~
