Is Black Friday really as hectic as most people make it out to be?

Living in Canada we don't celebrate black friday/thanksgiving day in november so we don't have the same type of deals. But is it as hectic and crazy as I hear it is down in the USA?

It can be, depending on where you go and what time. I go shopping on Black Friday, but I avoid places like Toys R Us, Walmart and Best Buy, which are the place that people go really crazy because they have a limited number of the hot ticket items, and people literally push and shove and knock each other down to get them. It is really crazy at those places when they first open, and even before, when people wait in line for the stores to open. I go to places like JC Penney, Sears, and other stores in the mall, instead. If you go early it is not that crowded, and you get some really great deals. I waited in line at Sears for about 20 minutes- that was the longest. Other than that, it was no worse than any other day between now and Christmas. I love going because it kicks off my holiday season and gets me in the Christmas spirit.

Black Friday is, in fact, as crazy as you have probably heard. Last year there were several injuries in stores as people were fighting over the deals. My neighbors went out shopping for Black Friday yesterday, and they stood in line at K-Mart for 4 hours to check out. I stay away from the stores and malls on that day because I can't stand crowds!
