Anyone stressed at Christmas?

While I love the meaning and story of Christmas, I find that I dread when it comes. It has become so commercialized and it is often more stressful than it needs to be because we give more than we can actually afford. January and February are extrememly painful trying to get caught up. I also dislike having to buy gifts for people who don't bother to even ask how I am during the rest of the year. Anyone else share this feeling and any tips to cope?

Every year i havent ever been able to find the time (or money) to buy all of my best mates and family members a present without forgetting someone, and most of the things i buy i get given back! Well, if you dont tell me what you DO want then how am i supposed to know? im not psychic! lol

I am really stressed because I have to buy each year, at Christmas, about 12 gifts only for the kids of my family. This means spending a lot of money, which I earn very hard, and try to make savings all year to manage all that. I also have to buy some new clothes for the Christmas day and New Year's eve, the two most important days at the place I am singing. You see I do my best to look stanning these two days. This stress me a lot because all the eyes will be on what I wear! Also I am really stressed for having all my friends and relatives complaining one's again that I am not with them on holidays and instead I'll be working.. I feel so bad already and each year I know that they will start complaining again.

Oh I don't have a lot of money and this always stresses me at Christmas. For instance, my 4 year old nephew LOVES dressing up as super heroes and such. So my idea for what to get him for christmas was simple, I was going to go out right after halloween and buy him a bunch of cheap halloween costumes. Great idea right? Well it was until, as always, my brother and his wife go and say "oh well we were gonna make him a chest for costumes and fill it with costumes, why don't you get him a digital camera?" WhAT? he's 4! A/ he doesn't need a digital camera and 2/ that's a heck of a lot more expensive then what I had been hoping to spend! Like 30 dollars more! So i was like grrrmph. It's always super frustrating for me. It's stressful and frustrating but it's still my favorite holiday.

OOOHHHH YEAH! My thoughts, feelings and words pretty much exactly! Buy for those who EXPECT you to buy for them, cuz you're related, even though they don't know you any other time of year. And then you're left with little or nothing to spend on your REAL family - you know - the ones that are there for you no matter what all year round - your friends. Yeah, it's painfully stressful and it takes a lot of the joy out of it for me. But what do you do? I don't have an answer.

Christmas is what you make it. If you allow yourself to get caught up in the commercial part of it, you will find yourself stressed. What I do is make sure I don't take on any more than I feel I can handle without getting stressed. For instance, I don't say yes to every invitation, or volunteer to do more than I know I can do. As for buying gifts, if you can't pare down your list, spend less per person. Like they say, it's the thought that counts. As my family got bigger, we started drawing names so we didn't all have to buy for everyone. That is a huge help because instead of buying for 20 people, we buy for 3, in my extended family.
