What do you mean free website? Like, you want to make your own site? Try Blogger... it's pretty straightforward for beginners... Or you can try Geocities... Im sure there are lots of new sites offering webpages for free, but I started with Geocities and it's been ok so far... my site's been hosted free there for the past 11 years...

Yes, there are a few which are very handy and suit begineers with no need of knowing html. www.50megs.com is a great one but www.bravenet.com isnt as good in bandwidth but is much easier and better suited for a newbie.
