I am all for healthy eating don't get me wrong, but there has to be middle ground. I was eating my favourite snack of a bag of crisps and reading another discussion about lunch boxes which got me thinking about just how far healthy eating has got. I used to work in a primary school and the school enforced a NO CRISPS rule! On everyone (even the staff weren't allowed to eat crisps in front of the children!) but that doesn't stop me, Ever tried to take a bag of crisps off a wolfie?Seriously tho' I know children have to be healthy but surely crisps aren't the baddy here, crisps ok are full of fat, but they are also full of carbs, and you know what children are like in the playground for running around and burning up energy! So why not let them have crisps? One bag won't hurt them surely? It just seems ridiculous to me. When I was a child we had cooked meals, now they have to rely on sandwiches, fruit and raisins, how borrrring? sorry but children should have a well balanced diet. Is it any wonder why children go down to the chippy at lunch time (older children admittedly) So what do you think about schools banning crisps (CHIPS for My Lovely American friends) do you think they are going too far?

Growing up we always got things like chips, ice cream, candy but then we were always running around burning it off. I think alot of kids today have become couch potatoes or worse, computer potatoes. I try to limit my time on the pc but it is really hard to do. Once you get into the habit of sitting alot you don't tend to do much else. I think instead of spending so much time worrying about foods they need to focus on getting more kids on their feet. MERRY CHRISTMAS!! **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

The less you do the less you want to do! Even sitting around at home on the PC makes you tired. Thanks for your response, appreciated.

Chips…yes we call that here in India too. My son’s school has also banned chips, colas, cakes and chocolates in school. These are no longer available in the canteen, nor can any child carry these as lunch! Just imagine the harassment of parents. On any given day when I am out of stock and time, I would just give him a cake and biscuits for tiffin and it would suffice. But now every morning I have to think of ways to stuff the box. I find it ridiculous too…all the more so coz as I read and respond to your post, I am myself chewing on a bar of candy. There’s nothing unhealthy about it. I know my eating habits and that of my family. Mostly we are on home-cooked food with a balance of meat, veggies and carbs. So such indulgences now and then don’t bother me at all. Even if my son was to consume one packet of chips per day, it would still be OK coz other than that, he is on food cooked by me. And such indulgences are the joy of childhood.

Hey crisps are bad! LOL :PPP As for schools banning crisps, I guess they just wanna set some rules. After all, who says one can only eat crisps in school? Kids don't know moderation. My GOSH, "even" adults don't know moderation so why should kids know better? :P

Lead by example, it's the sheep syndrome, moderation is it in the dictionary now? LOL

If you ask me, wolfie, they've gone too far with BANNING things altogether! It's like they want us to believe everything is bad for us these days. The way I see it, if these things are all bad for us, it's because they've made them that way. They shouldn't have started putting additives into everything to make them have a longer shelf life, etc. I can't think of many things that mankind has put their hands on without making them worse.
