Do you close your blinds?

I was driving the other night, and I couldn't help but notice how many people had no coverings on their windows. I could see people in their homes, and it got me thinking. I always close my blinds when it gets dark outside. I don't like the idea that someone can see in but I can't see out. And besides, I would rather people not see in. I just don't like the feeling of being watched. How about you? Do you close your blinds or curtains when it gets dark? Or does it not bother you if people can see in?

Hi Sillychick! That is so very funny that you started a discussion on this, I was riding in the truck with my hubby the other night and was noticing this same thing! Almost every house that we passed had those verticle blinds that were open or pulled back and I could see right in there. My blinds are closed!! I would feel funny with them open at night, you can easily see in at night with lights on in the room. I will keep them open in the daytime when I dont keep lights on, you cant really see in unless your face is pressed to the window pane. LOL Not sure why people feel so comfortable doing this, it would give me the creeps. I tont want people looking in at us. Bay Lay Gray xx

Haha maybe that particular house just wanted all the passer by's to see what fun they were having! I know just what you mean about not having to look, just a glance and you can see a whole lot! Thanks for BR :) Bay xx

I don't get how it doesn't bother some people. I was driving a couple nights ago and passed a house with a huge front window. You didn't have to try to see in, it was almost the whole front of the house. I glanced, and saw a bunch of people dancing- it looked like a conga line. Now, there is nothing wrong with that, but why leave the blinds open??

I only open my blinds when I open my windows during the warmer days to let in fresh air. All other times I keep them closed, to keep heat or cool air in. Night time, I don't open my blinds at all, I don't want people looking inside to see what I have. I don't see a lot of homes around here that has theres open during the night hours, I guess they feel the same way I do.

Well, I don't want people being able to look in at me either. I mean what if you just got out of the shower and you need to run into your bedroom for something fast. You don't want the neighbors across the street seeing your goodies, lol.

I was just thinking about people seeing me, but you're right, not good for people to see what I have either.

It really depends on the time of day. I always have the blinds open in the day time. I love having the sun pour in and it really makes a difference in how warm the house is... saves a little bit on the heating bill too! At night I have to have the blinds closed - it's just a matter of privacy. For some reason I figure if they're open during the day and someone is peaking in I can see them. At night time I have no idea who's out there looking at my family.

Right, in the day you can see out but not in, at night you can see in but not out. I also keep my blinds open during the day.

I normally close my blind when it gets dark. I live in the midle of no where and I get sort of paranoid out here when I am by myself...especially after a scary movie. LOL But I usually have them all closed. I have noticed many people do not even put blinds or curtain up throughout their homes, maybe in the bedrooms. But they would definitly come in handy when some people decided to streak through there house in the middle of the night with lights on...lol.. Seen that happen a couple of times. :)

I am the same way. I don't like watching scary movies for that reason- I get paranoid and every little thing makes me jump.

Yes my blinds are always closed. There are some houses on my street like you describe who always have their curtains open. I walk by and look straight into their house and can see everything they do. I guess some people just like having people look at them, I don't know. I don't want anybody looking at my business.

We usually have certain blinds closed all the time. The ones in our room never get opened. The ones in the front of the house never get opened. Sometimes I open the ones in the back and then leave them open...I like the light, but don't usually remember to close them every day. When we lived in an upstairs apartment we left certain ones open all the time. No one could see in (we were on the third floor and at a funny angle)... I don't want people seeing in, especially all the time, though I do like the sunshine and I am just too lazy to open and close them all the time, especially the ones that are hard to reach.

I do close the curtain at night, yet not for avoiding others to peep in but for having a longer sleep the next morning. Also i am afraid of ghosts or sth like that, i just keep the blinds closed to shut them out.

Yes, it helps to sleep in when you don't have the sun shining in your face.

I have noticed this a lot around my city too. I dont understand it. I feel exactly the way you do. I dont want someone to be able to look into my house. I like my privacy, and the blinds are always closed at night. Generally I keep them closed during the day as well because I live in an condo complex and there are people who live in buildings all around me, and I am on the first floor.

I did keep them closed during the day where I used to live for the same reason. Where I am now, though, I open them during the day.

I cannot stand the feeling that someone can look into my house at night! The thought just creeps me out. At night, about dusk, my blinds get closed every night. In the mornings when I wake up they get reopened to let the sun light in.

IOur house only has curtains, so it's either all sunlight or all dark. I can't stand when people look into the house! I wish we had blinds, so I could keep them partually closed.

During the day it's not so bad, can't see much from outside, usually. But I'd definitely close them tight at night.

Our curtains get opened in the morning as soon as the sun comes up and they get closed in the evening as soon as the sun goes down. We do not live near any other houses, so I am not worried about anyone looking in really. I just close them cause it seems like the sensible thing to do.

I don't have any reason to think someone would be out there looking in, I just don't like the idea that they could and I'd never know it because I can't see out.

Yup! The blinds in my room are always closed. Sometimes, in the morning, i open the blind so as to allow the light outside to enter the room. My blinds are always closed so that people/strangers won't see or peep inside. and also because i do not want to see ghosts outside the window. I am afraid of ghosts. it really does bother me if people can see inside the house because, for me, the house is a special place in where i can do anything i want. and if people see what i am doing, it is kindda an invasion of privacy.

I like allowing the light in too. But I need my privacy once it's dark out.

i'm the same as you are. i get so freaked out if it's dark outside and the blinds are open. i feel like someone is out there watching. i always have blinds and/or curtains covering windows at night. i just feel safer with it like that.

Yea when it gets dark outside I close my blinds. Because during the day I can use the sunlight and save some money with lights and what not. But I do know what you mean, I've seen it as well with people leaving their blinds open. I don't like people to be able to see me late at night, not really knowing if people are but there are some fairly odd people who do those type of things. So yes I do close my blinds, but at night.

Yes, the natural light helps save energy during the day.

my blinds are always closed at night, during the day they are still closed, but i draw them up so i can have the windows open, but i don't want people to see what is going on in my home at night when my family is all together inside.

I prefer having my privacy and yes I close my blinds when I think that they can see me. I like to keep my private life safe from nosy people. Have a great day!

We keep our blinds closed all year around. It is my husbands's idea but not mine since I have S.A.D. and have to have the sunlight. I do have the kitchen window clear, and I can get sunlight there. We do have the windows darkened, we have double plan low E, so no one can see into them, but I get so depressed and tired, and I am always afraid that because it is warm in the house, that when I go out, I may be surprised that it really is that cold.

We absolutely do. I hate the idea of people being able to look inside and see what we're watching or doing. I'm okay with keeping the door open while the security door is closed, but as soon as we go to bed, ALL the doors, windows, curtains, blinds get shut and double checked before laying in bed. Maybe we're just paranoid.

I always close my blinds and curtains at night. I do notice that many people here in rural canada don't do it but when I was in the city I had lots of basement apartments in bad areas so all the pervs could watch you in the window. So now I don't feel comfortable if I can't see outside and people can see in.

During the day if it is sunny outside I have my curtains open. But at night all my curtains get shut because I usually get my shower and night and walk around in a towel or something like that and I dont want anybody looking in and seeing me. And plus if I am sleeping I dont want nobody to see that either. LOL.
