well she is gonna need alot of calcium and such , least thats what my vet told me when i took my pupps in to get their tails docked ( we had bred rat terriers for a while ) and they had tried to get me to give her calium pills, but we had told them that we had been feeding her puppy food since she had been bred and hey seemed to be very happy with that and said to keep up with the puppy food diet while she was nursing as well , so i dont know if that would apply to cats , my cats nevr really had much of a prob , we just fed them reg food and such honestly ther was once i dont EVEN realize that my daughters cat was preggo !! * LOL TRUE STORY I was in chat one night and the cat was bugging me omg she kept comin up to me and meowing and suff and i went to make sure she had food and every thing ya know ,so after i found that the cats had food and water ( a thing thats awlays needing to be checked as we have 6 or so heck i lost count at this point LOL ) any who they HAD food and water but this cat was BUGGING me !! so im trying to check my mail and chill out in chat so i start talkin on the mic about the cat and i say ya know , man this cat sure is fat ... i mean fatter than normal gawd i HOPE she not preggo again !!(this would be her 2nd litter) ok so te cat finally goes away after 20 min or so and all is quiet again i get some mail taken care of , so fast forward 3 hours ...( yes im STILL on the comp and in chat , lets not go intomy addiction of the internet or ya hoo chat thats another mylot topic LOL ( but if it helps i WAS suring mylot too LOL ) ) well my 7 yr old daughter comes to me all sleepy eyed caues its like 1 am and says "mommys theys a baby mouse on my bed crying " HUH ok time for mommy to step AWAY from the comp and see whats going on LOL...YEP YOU GUESSED IT The FAT cat was having her KITTENS on my kids bed * smacks head * So Mommy had to have daughter jumpin bed with lil sis lol and grab sheet from bed and make smallish "birthing room" in the closet till morning and silently thanked god that it wasnt one of the "good" sheets LOL so all n all it turned out fine as for the kids the cat didnt mind the kids messing with the babies but our cats are used to kids i guess it depends on your family . We have a zoo here from bunnies to birds ;) so kittens ar no biggie but i still plan on getting my 2 girl kittens fixed ;) OH YEA!!! make sure you keep your cat flea treated espessily before she has the babies thats the 1 thing that will kill the babies no matter how well you feed them etc if they have too many fleas on them they will die my vet has even said it was ok to put a drop of that advanix stuf on their necks if they have fleas really bad ;) ok this has turned into a book rather than a comment hope this helped ya some ! ~M~

You have got lots of advice already. I hope you find good homes for the kitties when they are old enough to be placed with some cat lovers. Enjoy the cat babies and remember to take some photos, they will be great to have after you have given or sold the kitties away.

You should spay her when she has the kittens. There are enough unwanted animals in this world as it is. Keep her on kitten food through her pregnancy and as she nurses. She'll need the extra nutrients in the kitten chow to keep her strength up. I suggest keeping a bowl of dry kitten food out all the time and feeding her canned kitten food two or 3 times a day. Pregnant animals need a lot of extra food. Fresh water is a must for any animal, pregnant or not. Good bedding is a must as well. The closer she gets to her due date, she'll start nesting. You may find her in a closet in an unused room of the house or somewhere quiet. She won't have the kittens out in the open. A cat reverts back to it's animal instincts when it goes into labor and gives birth: it hides. Predators can easily prey on newborn animals and the mothers know this. A large box such as a copy paper box or larger with a few towels and one side cut out will provide her with a good place to nurse. Handle the kittens as much as possible from birth. That'll get them used to human contact so you won't wind up with a bunch of wild kittens at birth. The mother may watch you or growl, but pet her and speak to her lovingly and she'll begin to trust you. Check the kittens' eyes frequently for infections. They will begin to open around weeks 3-5. A warm rag over the eyes will help get the crust out of them and to ward off infections. Keep an eye on mama during labor. She may have a stuck kitten inside of her and will require immediate surgery. take her to the vet now and get an ultrasound done to get a count of the number of kittens inside her. That way you'll know for sure when she is done. And please, get her spayed.
