I have always been fascinated about tattoos and watching the show Miami Ink has added more to my curiosity and interest in tattoos. I have alraedy listed in my To-Do Things before I Die that I will get a tattoo before I turn 30. Currently, I am a young, single, college instructor. Willgetting a tatto affect my credibility and integrity as a professor and scholar? What do you think of people in the academe who has tattoos?

i dont think it should really matter what your body looks like i want to become a teacher one day myself and i have a tattoo and my labret pierced. i dont think that it changes the type of person u are it just expresses a little of what u have been through or ur likes i dont see there being anything wrong

I don't think it will affect your credibility as a college professor. If you get another job, it could. Depends on what field you'll be working in. But if I had a professor with a tattoo, I would just find it really interesting. It wouldn't affect how I thought about him.

thanks. its really encouraging to know that people might really find it interesting for a person to have a tattoo, or for a person to want to get a tattoo. i think tattoos are becoming mainstream nowadays, because people seem more open for it.

I dont think a tattoo should ever change someones credibility or make someone look unprofessional. Sure, you dont really wanna see a doctor with huge snakes and dragons all up his arms and neck, but your job shouldnt keep you from doing soething youve always dreamed. I think as long as its not HUGE and its a respectable one that it really shouldnt matter at all

If it's visible, some people will admire you mroe and some will admire you less. It's up to them... If you want to get a tattoo, don't be affected by what others think

i guess that's what im really concerned about..what others might think if I do get a tattoo. Especially if you're in a conservative profession and you have younger people to look after. LOL. anyway, thanks!

I just graduated highschool. and three of my teachers had visible tattoos. on their arms. I think it shows the persons personality more than anything. With the amount of people who have tattoos now. in a few years, it wont be abnormal to see educators with tattoos or other body modifications.

hi majablanca! so, did you get a tattoo? for me, i think having a tattoo isn't really a basis of integrity and credibility. if you like arts and you like to express it by having a tattoo then its fine. as long as they don't like the tattoos of those people in jails. ^__^;;

Just as any job that is in a professional setting, as long as your tattoo is in a place that is covered by pants or a shirt, you're fine. Don't get a tattoo on your neck, knuckles or face haha and I think you're ok. I have a bunch of ink, and work in a very conservative office. All but 2 of my tattoos are conceled by clothes. I have never had an issue with it.
