Scraped Up!

My six year old son came home today with a huge scrape on his hand from falling in the playground today. He couldn't use the hand at all today because it is really badly scraped up. Luckily he is left handed and this was the right hand, but seeing that poor bugger trying to lift his drawers one handed but independently was sad. It reminded me when I got really badly scraped up when I was 16. I was on a trip to Thunder Bay with my then boyfriend. We were having a few drinks and walking around when we got to a really cool playground. It was the coolest ever, with wicks slides and swings. But the most awesome thing there was this thing that you held on to the bars and slid across the playground on a rope. Now this was meant for maybe a 10 year old at most. Not a drunk 5'10" punk like me, but no I had to do it as I never did anything like that before in my life. I was so cool going on down with my man watching me. Weeeeee! Then ughhhhhhh, I didn't lift my knees to my chest but had them going behind me and scraped up both my knees. I acted really cool like it didn't hurt and washed off the pebbles in the lake nearby. But once we got back to where we were staying my boyfriend saw how back they were. I was in so much pain. They ended up turning green and puss filled too. I could barely walk without my eyes watering from the pain. I still have scars from that awful night. What was the worst scraps you ever got and from what?

Sobriety vs The Sidewalk - I call it Sobriety vs The Sidewalk because I was sober, walking on the sidewalk only to fall and have the sidewalk beat my face. Obviously the sidewalk won.
Best thing Ever. Almost two years ago... it was January. I had just gotten over being really sick and I went out to a bar, my hang out at the time, and I went out to get a CD from my car to get my friend, the DJ to play. Since I had just been sick I wasn't drinking or anything mind you. So I went outside, got the CD out of my car and I was walking back in...and I tripped over the sidewalk and fell. Unfortunately, somehow when I fell I put my arms out in front of me but they kind of just gave out and I fell flat on my face. Since I had been walking, as I fell I was still sorta skidding forward and I scraped the side of my face{see attached photo} and both of my knees, plus ripped a hole in one of the knees. I went inside and looked at my face in the mirror and just started laughing at the nice flesh wound. I went over to my friend who got the very drunk bartender (also a friend) to clean up my face (he neosporined everything but the right spots. I stayed till the end of the night (people kept asking me about my face, I laughed, told them what happened, they thought I was drunk). left at 2 am and went to the 24 hour CVS. Got Peroxide, Neosporin and Vitamin E oil. Went home, put peroxide on my face which stung like a mother! Neosporined it up and went to bed. It was gross. it was wet and drippy and woke me up a lot. The next morning I had to be somewhere at 10am. It was about an hour from my house. I worked at a radio station and we were doing a 2 day broadcast for the Polar Bear Plunge (Benefit for the Special Olympics) and the first day it was just the radio folk and super plungers (People who jump in the water once every hour for 24 hours straight) and oh the people who asked me about my face. The second day the television crew was there and oh how fun to have billions of people seeing my face like that. I thought it was hilarious, still do. So yeah I took that picture at like 3 am, it's the worst picture and totally doesn't show the greatness of my scratches. Fortunately it didn't scar badly, I used the vitamin e oil. You can still see a faint flesh wound scar but it's nothing major.

Ha Ha. Fortunately since it was January I had about 3 coats on and a few scarves and hoods so I was able to hide it pretty well and I stayed away from the TV crews.. There was a picture on the radio stations website for a long time too. It's not there anymore, but it was classic.

Ouch that sounds painful! I had two big scrapes, both at school, once when I fell down the stairs at high school, there were only four steps and I was rushing and tripped I fell on my arm it would have to be my right wrist I fractured, I couldn't write with my left hand! I also had stitches in my head. The second time was when I was 10 I was playing kiss chase with the girls and I was running down the corridor, I slipped and fell on a milk crate the edge of the crate caught my eye I still have a small scar beside my left eye, any nearer and I would have been blinded!

First let me say the school was negligant in not calling or telling you that your son was injured on the playground at school and you should file a complaint about that. Seems schools more and more blow of things that could be serious. I would not let this slide. As to my worst scrapes I have had many in my life but one of the worst was I was 16 and riding a bike downhill. I hit a rock and over I went. scraped my side and arm and sprained my ankle badly. I had a new job I had to go and do the next day and I tell you hobbling around on a swollen black and blue ankle for 6 weeks was no picnic. Plus my side was sore for about two weeks from the scrapes. But I eventually healed and got paid my first $100.00 bill. That was back in 1965.

I was using a jig saw to whittle off a bit of wood when it slipped and I jig sawed my finger to the bone. This post reminded me of that because just the other day another bit of bone worked its way to the surface at the edge of the scar. And this is ten years after I did it! Do you still get bits of stone working its way out of your knees?

Oh my goodness that is terrible! My mouth fell open when I read this post. I did have bits of stone work its way out the first month or so but that was it. Yours sounds very very serious. Hope you are okay!

I was in grammar school and fell on the playground during recess and scraped the whole side of my face. The funny thing was that I have freckles and later on that day after I stopped crying, etc. I went back to see if I could find my freckles on the ground! It sounds so silly now but I guess when I was a kid - I really thought I'd find them!
