What was your first experience with the Internet?

My first experience with the Internet was not a pleasant one. It happened during the late 1990's at a local library. For some reason, I got stuck on a website that was still in the process of being built. I waited there for ten minutes for the site to load. But, it never happened. It took another six years before I got back online. I figured that they'd fixed the problem by then. Back then, I figured anyone that used a mouse, must be some kind of genius. I marveled at the easy way my brother checked his emails. Nowadays, that's just an ordinary fact of life. Email is something I can't live without. Sometimes I wonder how I ever survived life before getting onto the Internet. It has made life so much more easier and productive. It took over three years to become proficient at using the Internet, but now it feels second nature. So, what was your first experience with the Internet? Did you know what you were doing when you got online? How long did it take you to get accustomed to "surfing" the Internet?

My first experience was in grade school on some sad old macs and who knows how terrible the bandwith was back then. I remember being fascinated at being able to search for anything I can think of in yahoo. It was like some ultimate fountain of knowledge and information. I still think it is. My experiences with computers weren't all that great though. There was some sort of misconception I had about computers being difficult to use. I had a computer class in 7th grade that I remember struggling with. Now, however, I tinker with and build computers as a hobby, and have spent a ton of time on the web. Never could have foreseen that back then...

That was way back in the 90s when one of my friend took me to the internet cyber cafe and helped me in opening a yahoo mail account and i was so thrilled at that moment to have my own mail id on the internet and i could resist going back again and again to check mails at that time, even though no one sent me any mails at that time. LOL

I first went online at age 14, and my first experience was underwhelming. My mom was trying to show me what to do, so I typed in the only website I had seen an address for: www.tide.com. I kid you not, that was the first site I ever went to. I just didn't listen to the radio or even MTV where they talked about different websites. My interests were different back then. I wasn't impressed with the Tide website, but a few weeks later I gave it another try and picked the internet up really fast.

At that time I didn't know more about computer and internet. Besides, the internet fee was quite high at that time, it charged by every minute. I was at a loss what to do at that time:)

It was late 1998. I had just graduated from college so I needed to go job hunting. Internet cafes were still rare back then. We had to travel to a mall that was more than an hour away. My brother taught me all about email. Connections then were slow as broadband hadn't been invented yet. It took me all day until almost midnight just to apply for a few jobs.

I got acquainted through the internet with online games. I did not browse websites back then. I only use the internet for fun. In my case that was online gaming. Then I started spending time on a good social networking site and then everything just unfolded. One thing lead to the other and the other and the other. Now, I am a blogger and I know more resources in the internet than most average individuals.

This is a very interesting question. When I was sixteen I got to use a computer for the first time. I put my fingers down on it like I would have done on a type writer. All the keys went down at once. I was scared away from computers after not knowing what I was doing with them. In my first full time job I had to use a computer. I hated doing this as it often went wrong. I didn't touch a computer again until I went to university. I hated computers and only typed my assignments if the lecturer insisted. I told I should use the Internet to research children's literature. Oh, how awful it was trying to do this that I gave up. When I became a teacher the head teacher at the school I was teaching at said my computer skills were terrible. I got a computer through the half price computers for teacher's scheme. It took me a while to be able to use the Internet and Email friends. I used dial up until 2005 when I moved an area that had broadband.

Hello beauty queen. I still remember my first experience using the Internet. It was in a net cafe in 2001 with my colleague. He was playing computer games and I asked to play as well. I was so stupid not to know how to play as I was even not familar with computers then. I found it difficult to learn to use computers and got disappointed with it. But I am happy that I started to use computer in my work after that and had so much to learn while using it. After so many years, I think that I have known a lot about computer and the Internet. Now I always use the Internet in my own apartment in my spare time. I don't like the desktop in my office and I seldom use it as I am not good at using the desktop heyboard, but mine only. lol. Thanks for your discussion, dear beauty queen.
