Had 10 minutes to get everyone out the door

Never mind the fact that it is raining an ocean of water outside. We lost power again last night so my alarm didn't go off. Being that I haven't been well I slept in. The kids woke me up and found out we had 10 minutes to get out the door. That is getting the computer on to see if there will even be school (check yes ugh) okay getting them something to eat (here! chew on an apple), making lunches, them getting dressed, finding a band aid to cover Colton's scrap for the day, finding matching mittens,etc... Thank goodness they could get dressed (already set out from last night) and brush their teeth (I hope they all did, but I think one is off with morning funk mouth) while I did everything else. So off they run for the bus and they made it. WOW! Poor things are soaked though. At least they will have a star (special occurrence) each on their chore charts for the beds they couldn't make. LOL This never happens to us. I usually wake up before my alarm even goes off but have it just in case. But with not feeling well and no alarm from the power outage the odds were against me. Do you need an alarm to wake in the morning? Are you one that sleeps in often or always the early bird like I normally am? What do you sacrifice doing in the morning when you are running late?

I need an alarm to remind me that I have to wake up but I don't really sleep in. I also don't think that I'm a morning person either. I get to work 45 minutes earlier than anyone else for a reason. I like my quiet time. Anyhow,I don't normally run late and even if I am I can get ready in about 10 minutes. So I'm pretty good with getting ready in a hurry.

I do like to get up early and have quiet time and go at a relaxed pace. But we made it in 10 which for three people I think was pretty good. We aren't used to it though. Thanks

i too am not a morning person... which in turn i need an alarm to tell me its morning!!! i don't like being late though so as much as possible, i get everything ready before i get to bed. you the usual stuff a mother does, get the school uniforms ready, their bags check, their snack ready. if and when we get up late, we can get ready in 15 minutes. that is take a shower, get dressed and off to school. i put on my make up when i get to the office. i am usually early because school starts 40 minutes before office hours.

i hardly sleep off because i always sleep earlier the night before... usually, i wake up well before the alarm went off... my hubby is harder to wake up... i have to wake him up sometimes many times and drag him out of the bed to go to work... but it is OK... if i wake up late, the thing that i have to sacrifice is eating breakfast and taking a bath... :-)

Your hubby sounds a bit like my ex. He needed three alarm clocks around the house to get him out of bed. My man now is an early bird and up way before I.

ah the joys of parenting! but if i sleep in, everyone sleeps in! i am generally the one who wakes both my daughters and my hubby up in the am! besides getting the girls up and out, i also work p/t every morning and before i go to work, i generally come on here, check my emails and the like, but if i am running late, i skip that (and check them at work! lol!!)

I'm both an early bird when I set my prioritize straight and I reinforce myself of the schedule that I am supposed to wake up, but if I am really exhausted from work or perhaps sick like the way you were feeling, I usually sleep in with no intentions of doing so. I guess this would be one indicator that your body needs more time to rest and also recuperate. If you're too tired and you force yourself to wake up, it's not always a good feeling, and if you're not feeling well, and you have to force yourself up, the more ill you get. If I am running late, I will be sacrificing the quality time I take a shower and enjoying the water. I love to get in the shower. (^_^)

Hi vicki, I'm a stay at home mom, so my hubby is the one that gets up with his alarm at 6, then is out the door at 6:45 to be at work for 7. Seeing as I am his chauffeur to and from work I get up at 6:30, get our daughter ready, and then off we go. I usually wake up before his alarm goes off at 6, but then sometimes go back to sleep for the extra half hour. Doesn't always work out though. PurpleTeddyBear.

Thanks PurpleTeddyBear, I am lucky I had no where I needed to be because that would have thrown off my whole day.

My baby is my alarm clock. I am in big trouble the first time she decided to actually sleep in. My son has missed the bus a few times, but not because we didn't wake up on time. He just likes to dilly dally in the morning.

Mine are all past the baby stages :( so they won't wake me anymore. We have actually missed the bus when the kids were dilly dallying around too. It was weird cause we were sitting around waiting and then just forgot to go. DUH LOL Thanks for sharing

I don't worry about running late too much these days, because I am a sahm. Other than the occasional early appointment, I leave when I am ready, and don't rush. But back when I was working, I was very, very dependent on my alarm clock. I had battery back up in case the power went out. I opened the preschool where I worked, so I couldn't afford to be late. If I did oversleep, my coffee was the first thing to go. I was not a morning person, so I always showered at night. The morning was just to brush teeth, get dressed, and make coffee. I didn't like skipping my coffee, but sometimes I could stop at the shop next to school, or call my coteacher and ask her to bring me one.

I don't just need one alarm clock, I need two plus my husband and a few cats to remind me to get up in the morning. I am not a morning person and hate getting up early.
