What in your opinion is worse for your health? Sugar, fat, salt, carbs, something else? I have always thought that fat was the worst, but I am hearing more and more that sugar is bad. But at other times it seemed like everyone was saying carbs were bad. I always heard salt was bad. So which one is the worst for your health?

Everyone needs fat in their diet, it's making sure you get the right daily quota, a good balanced diet will include fat, moderation is the key.

I guess anything that is eaten in excess is really bad for our health. Also eating junk foods and taking sythetic vitamins as well. If we can have fresh foods cooked properly then much better.

I don't think any of them are worst than each others, they are all bad for your health if taken in high doses, everything in moderation, don't rule them out, still eat them but obviously in smaller quantities. If you thought about it you wouldn't eat or drink anything. A sensible diet will take in all of these and remember if you cut out any of these they can just be as harmful as having too much!

That makes a lot of sense. Too much of anything is no good.

You know, your question is like - would you like to be stabbed, or fall from a cliff, or drown in sea. In all cases, the end-result is going to be the same, they are all bad and yet everyone may have their preference. Too much of anything is always harmful, not only in case of food but in life in general. There has to be a balance. Too much sugar will raise the amount of sugar in your blood leading to diabetes. Too much fat will caontract your veins and lead to cardio-vascular and a whole bunch of other diseases. Too much salt will cause the blood-pressure to rise. Too much carbs will cause you to become fat. As far carbs are concerned, they contain less calories than fats but still too much of them will certainly raise your weight and as bad aas fats.

fat is necessary just like other dietary concerns... some vitamins are only fat soluble. It is the excess that is worse for our health. the excess of any of these things. Salt is bad in large doses but some salt is necessary.

i've no idea about what is worse for one's health, but in my opinion there is one thing very important for the health, that is emotion.

Very excellent point hannah! I agree that it is very hard to keep your physical health if your emotional health is not well. My own history is proof of that. Thanks a lot!

I don't think it's the food that's bad for your health. I think what's bad is the fact that we are such a sedentary society any more that our bodies don't use what we put into it.

Of course we all know we should have everything in moderation, but I would say without a doubt it would be sugar. Candy has no fat, but it has tons of sugar. So many of our food products already have sugar, but then when they are processed, even more sugar is added. Diabetes is an epic battle America as well as other countries face, and diabetes isn't the only thing that can affect you when you have eaten too much sugar. Not to mention your teeth can literally rot away. We eat so much sugar without knowing it, that I think people would be surprised if they made a trip to the dentist. Likely they have cavities they don't even know about.

I understand that with the teeth! Even apple juice can kill those things. Thanks AmbiePam

Right now I think the worst thing for your health are all the dictates that *fat is bad* and *sugar is bad* and *salt is bad* and all the scare stories in the media. Every day there is yet another thing that is *bad for us* and I have reached the point where I feel that the best thing is to ignore the lot and just eat a sensible balanced diet.

Yeah I know it is getting to the point it is all bad for us, just be sensible about it. 5 boxes of chocolates in two days, not a good idea. LOL

All things are okay in moderation, it's when we have too much of one or more things it can be bad for us, just as eating too much in general is bad, or too much junk food. We all need a certain amount of salt, fat and sugar in our diet for good health, some fods get turned into sugar by the body for energy for the muscles.

It depends on what your specific needs are. Fat is bad for your heart and cholesterol. Salt is bad for blood pressure, sugar is bad for diabetes, too many carbs can be bad for diabetes. I have never bought into the low- or no-carb diets. They are ridiculous. I know that as more research is done we get new information about what is healthy, but how can it be healthy to go from having 2/3 or your calories come from carbs to none? It is effective at making you lose weight, but that doesn't mean it's healthy. They are now saying that there are long term negative effects to your health from the no-carb diets, so I guess I was right to be skeptical. The bottom line is variety, and everything in moderation. Nothing will be that bad for you if you don't over do it.

Well in my case as a diabetic it would be sugar but honestly all of those are things the doctor says to watch for. But doctors are saying a high carb low fat diet, low sodium diet are best for you and tons of exercise.

I am sorry you feel that way. This is the first day in a while that I have been at Mylot at all. Maybe my notification is turned off and I am not getting your topics. I will check. I always do my friends topics first before anything else when I have time to Mylot at all. I hope to get more active in the new year and hope to be able to post on your discussion.

No Food are really bad for your health, but greed will destroy you in no time! However, smoking is definitely a big NO NO! If it didn't kill you, then it will hurt or even kill everyone around you...
