Computer Mistake ?

I opened a receipt and had to sit down before I fainted...
It says I paid $1,450.00 for an item that was $14.50 total.
This amount has been charged to my account and they are
verifying the payment. I almost went into shock.
After about 5 minutes of starring at this I called my bank
to see if they had really paid out that much. Thank God they had not.
I then called the company about this and the girl who answered said they would refund the money ASAP, that it was just a computer error.
Now we all know computers don't make errors, they are only machines that
have an input and an output. They only output what a human inputs. It
took me a while to get her to understand that my bank had only paid the
correct amount.
For some reason her computer said that my bank had paid this amount.
"It's a compute error" Do you get this kind of remark when you have a question about your bills or a receipt when they see it is wrong and their fault?

You poor thing!! I know I would have fainted!! This happened to a friend of mine, she used her debit card at a restaurant and she works at her bank. She was checking something and she saw that they had charged her double than what the check was. She called them and they told her a "computer error". She told them just what you said, there is no such thing, its a human error! They just kept telling her it was the computer system and it does that sometimes. LOL Yeah it just says, hey Im bored with all these correct transactions, lets mess them up.
My cable bill is always wrong! They have amounts under certain headings in bold print, and it NEVER amounts to the right total. Its always $10 more. So every month when I get my bill I have to add it up myself and then tell them when I go pay that this is what it should be. I wonder how many people they are getting over on who dont really look at the bill closely and just pay the amount they say is due. They told me it was a computer error too!
I think I should charge them a fee for having to calculate my own bill!!

Everyone should check their cable as well as their telephone bill
they are almost always wrong (in their favor of course!) I have yet to get a bill from my cell phone company that has been right. My big mistake was putting everything I could on auto pay from my bank. This gave them an open door to charge for things I did not receive or for transactions that were not mine. The worst is the Hospitals
They charge peoples insurance for other peoples bill that don't get paid. I think they should have to pay for their mistakes too... I had to stop my insurance from paying a bill that was almost double what it should have been.
Cumputer error,that's BS!

Autopay is the one thing that I would never agree too, and just about every CR I have talked too regarding payments has made that suggestion. I'm thinking, yeah right, your not going to screw me into that idea. I'll gladly take the time to write you a check and drop it in the mail.
I read your other post on that. I went to school to be a Medical Biller, I was happy to see that your friend is paying close attention to what is going on. Hospitals seem greedy and that will come to bite them in the a** if they are'nt careful. I will be sure to check that bill too if it ever comes to it. Thanks!

Good that you're sharp and on top of things. I would have definately caught the mistake too becsuse I have caught too many to not watch my receipts. I have never seen this much of an error mind you but I can see where people could be out the money quite easily. Good for you that you saved the dollars, that's a huge amount of money to be out!!! Hope this helps others in doing what you did, check your sales slip. Thank You

Yes I do and my reply to that is do not tell me that as the Computer has to be worked by a Person which means it is a Person Error not a Computer Error they then try to make other excuses but I tell them not to bother just to rectify the Error and fast

It happened to me before but in different way. I purchase in a shopping mall, and paid it by my cash card. The cxahier told me taht it was not debited in my card and they ask me to pay it by cash but there was a confirmation sent to me by my local bank that the transaction was successful. So, I go to the customer service and explain the situation. They ask me to wait until they have it check. And it appears that it was a computer error so I had my money back.
