I have high blood pressure and it runs in my family. I have tried medicines in the past but found that the old diet and exercise thing is what works best and has no bad side effects! I don't feel bad when my blood pressure is high so I have to check it before I work out.

Yeah, diet and exercise is the first line treatment for high blood pressure, and most of the time it works. It's only when diet and exercise fails to control your blood pressure, then medications are indicated. I think the only side effect of diet and exercise is overindulging in them! =P

I agree - I'm doing at least 10,000 steps a day and wear a pedometer. If I'm low then I go for an extra walk or just run to Wal Mart or the mall and browse. It is amazing how many steps you can take doing that. My friends and I even have a competition to see who takes the most steps every week and the loser has to buy coffee (nonfat, no sugar of course). I'm not again medication, especially if your bp is so high you are in danger but it takes a while to take affect and is not always easy to get off of.

Hello! increased stress levels caused by economic prosperity and modern life style, including unhealthy eating and drinking habits, contributed to high blood pressure which ultimately leads to heart problems.with a view to maintain the blood pressure at normal level,in addition to medicines, you should give up drinks and smoking.dieting is a must for the blood pressure patient.so manage with salt restricted diet and do some exercise.apart from this, watch comedy films, read joke books and laugh loudly.share your laugh with family and friends.laughter reduces the hormone associated with stress response.deep breathing can also help one relax by lowering blood pressure.in fact, as little as 5minutes a day of deep breathing can refresh you a great deal.also take a clove of garlic daily in the morning with a glass of water in empty stomach.it can lower the cholesterol and may reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering blood pressure.thank a lot and good luck.
