Can Someone Explain the Media's Fascination With Paris Hilton?

I have nothing against Paris Hilton, except for her drunk driving, there is no excuse for that. Other then that, if she wants to party her life away, it's fine with me, she's young and may outgrow it. I don't understand why the media spends so much energy and resources on reporting on her. There are so many other stories, and people that are more deserving of the media attention.
