Our car, our lifeline, broke down today. My husband brought our eldest to school this morning and had to walk a mile up hill to get home. He rang our mechanic to come have a look at it, and he said the clutch cable was gone in it. He also said that we were lucky in a way that the whole clutch wasnt gone in her. We wont have her back untill tomorrow evening so it means that my son and I will have to get up that bit earlier in the morning to walk him to school. If it is raining in the morning though I will let him stay at home. Oh I miss my car!!!!! Has your car ever broken down?? Do you miss it when you havent got it??

My first car was in a car accident then in the shop for a month and then the shop burned down, destroying my car and 7 other cars with it. My second car was totalled by an idiot fed ex driver. My car I have now... was in the shop because some idiot didn't pay attention when he was going around a garage parking lot and almost hit me, so I ended up swerving and hitting the side of the garage and scraping up my car. It was in the shop for over a month and I was so mad they took so long. I had 3 rentals during that time. The first didn't have doors that locked. The second one got totalled by a krispie creme truck driver and i just didn't want the 3rd one cause I just wanted MY CAR back. So... needless to say, the answer to both your questions...YES.

My gosh!!! You are so unlucky with cars... or should I say with other idiot drivers!!! My last car seemed to be an idiot magnet too... A drunk driver hit the back of her first, the a council lorry took the side mirror off. And then a husband who didnt see a bollard in the underground carpark in town... But I have to say that I was never that unlucky. I hope you have your car back and no more idiot drivers.. :-)

I'm surprised you're game enough to even get in a car mate. Do you ever get the feeling someone is telling you something....like stay away from cars? You've reminded me of a few things myself. One thing is, get yourself a St Christopher medal and put it in you car somewhere. He is the patron St of travellers.

One would wonder why I get in a car. But you see, while I've never been hit by a car when walking, my dad has and thus making walking a bad idea. Then, you know how else do you travel but by a vehicle? I can't get around on a bike (I don't live close enough to things) and a taxi or a bus are vehicles just the same. A saint may help me, who knows.

Oh gosh, how awful! I don't drive my car much but ever since I've had my license my car has meant a lot to me. It's my freedom and independance. That's a huge thing to say which I'm sure you realsie. A couple of months ago, my friend had a dreadfully sore back and needed to travel to see his chiropractor. He left on Thursday afternoon and by Friday I was royally peed off. He had travelled even further, twice! I thought he would be home the same night he left. He rang me several times Saturday to tell me firstly, late morning, he was very sore; secondly, early afternoon, to tell me he would be home soon; thirdly, late afternoon, he had fallen asleep! I was ropable! What if I'd been ill, or one of my pets was hurt and I needed to get to the vet? He turned up later that night without even a sorry or thank-you!!! What I don't understand is why you wouldn't walk your son to school if it was raining. Sure, I understand you could get wet but don't you have raincoats and an umbrella? I hope all is well and your repairs weren't too costly and you're back on the road again. :)

Ahh, now I understand. It sounds quite idyllic on a lovely spring day, but a bit of an adventure on a blustery rainy day...lol. I'm so pleased your bill was less than you thought it would be. It's really good when that happens. Blessed be. :)

I know the feeling of being taken advantage of lol..... I take it you dont really know the Irish weather hahahaha... For a start, its a narrow country road with no shelter on the way up or down from the school. Umbrellas are a no-no, because they get blown inside out, and I didnt want him sitting in damp or wet clothes in the classroom all day. :-) Thankfully we have the car back now and it didnt cost as much as we thought...

Believe me...I totally know what you mean. You have no idea how bad it can be when you have to start walking in the rain just to get something or go somewhere. I have had my car break down so many times in the past, I was scared to get into it sometimes. LOL, now I have a new car and I don't worry so much, but I know how it is to not have your lifeline for acouple of days!

Last year in the late fall/ late winter my car broke down and it was going to cost too much to repair so I let it set in the driveway for a few days and then my neighbor lets me know that he has a car that he can sell me even though he would like to keep it (he had financial trouble). I bought it of of him and drove it during the winter until late February when the head gasket went. I was having financial trouble then so we (my girlfriend and I ) took public transportation when we had to go anywhere. It was 6 months of doing this before I finally broke down and went shopping for a car. There was a car dealership down the road that I went into first. I stopped a few other dealers before I went back to the first and signed for the car that I have now(it is expensive but I can pay for it). Yes it was troublesome to go without the car for the 6 months that I was without it.

I think when you have something for such a long time, and then suddenly have to do without it, you only then realise how much you depended on it. thanks for you response. :-)

Hi elemental69! I do missed having a car but now i got used to having one for myself. I got used to walking and taking the public transport. We still maintain one car and my husband use it all the time and it is alright because i prefer having just one car so that we could save more on our budget. Take care and have a nice day. :)

My husband and I both had our own cars when we met and carried on running the two of them for a couple of years. But its too expensive to run two cars these days especially when there is only one of us working. :-)

You drive that short distance to get him to school? heck, my parents made me walk, even when the school was a long ways away. And in the rain too!lol. Gee, some kids have it all. We have 6 members in our household, and until recently, didn't have a car. Now we have one I refer to as the hunka junka on wheels! lol. It is almost as old as I am, really in need of some tlc and doesn't like the open road or waiting at drive through. We can't complain though, we got it and rego for free and it fits us all. before that, we had to rely on buses and taxis. neither are reliable where we live. Oh, and I have never had my drivers license! lol. Hubby does all the driving. Including driving me nuts! lol.

Yeah I drive him to school lol, as it is all uphill. If it was on the level or down hill to the school then I would walk him to school every day. I cant let him walk on his own because it is too dangerous around here. Its a narrow road and cars just speed up and down..... Have you not figured out already that men have a special licence that we cant get???? They get their special one when we get our hands on the marraige licence lol!!!!!
