My sister had an imaginary friend who lived in the wall when she was 6. When we had to move very far away and her "friend" said she couldn't come so my sister stabbed the wall so noone else could have her. A sign our family was troubled? Yes! We laugh about it now but I never had one. My youngest son has one named George. Did any of you have one or does your children have one? Do you have one now? LOL

LOL -for the last line(= but no hehe My daughter who is barely two years old has a playmate and she's a neighbor of ours, she's around five or six years old. She comes over every day and play with my daughter. I observe and hear her all the time about the people she makes up and friends and stuff, with corresponding names. My baby picks up on that and she now mimicks those names. I am quite pensive about this. I don't know if this is unhealthy or what but I don't know if I want my baby to learn about imaginary friends. What do you think?

As long as she isn't stabbing them with knives I think it is a great way for them to express themselves and be creative. I don't mind that my youngest has one as he creates wonderful stories with him and gets inventive which is great for brain development. Only if there are negative signs would I worry.

Okay, that's a good thought. But what about when adults ask this little girl about something and she keeps answering things that well, she just invented and basically not true. Like an event or so happened but did not really, stuff like that.

I had an imaginary friend when I was around 5 years old. I called her Prachi and would talk and play with her for hours. I guess it was mostly because I had no siblings and we stayed at a place where there were no kids around.

i tried to "befriend" one when i was a kid but things did not work quite right. lol. it was an influence i got from watching too much tv and that most cartoons i watched had imaginary friends with them. hehe. so i tried to have one but eventually i forgot that i have him or her by my side. hahaha. real friends are better than the imaginary ones.

My brother seemed to have a whole slew of them...sorta. One day when he was four someone asked him, "What planet do you come from?" and he replied, "Pluto". Now he thought he had made the planet up. From that day forward his imagination when wild. He would go in our closet and come out as one of his pluto friends. The two of them had switch places so he could visit everyone on Pluto for awhile. Then there was the planet Mayonnaise which was connected to Pluto by the longest interplanet bridge. His friends would come and visit, both in his body and out... I on the other hand never had a "friend", but I had a chalk board and therefore a lot of imaginary pupils. I would teach my imaginary students, my stuffed animals, and anyone else I could force through a lesson!

My son had an imaginary cat. We would have to leave a chair empty at the table so the cat could sit down. When my sister came to visit she thought we were nuts to cater to this fantasy My son screamed at her when she wanted to shut the side door because apparently the cat was there. The imaginary friend went away once my son started senior kindergarten.

I never had one but my 6 year old daughter (who has a vivid imagination) has one. In fact I think she's had several. I cannot remember what his/her name is though lol. I think it's normal for little kids to have imaginary friends, so I don't worry about it.

Hi Vicki. I tried to have one when I was little as I heard other kids my age had imaginary friends. I picked Casper the Ghost to be my imaginary friend. Boy, talk about original! I couldn't even come up with my own imaginary friend, I had to 'steal' one from a TV show! :P LOL I had a couple of 'conversations' with him, but that was abut it. I felt so foolish for talking to a friend that wasn't there, that our friendship ended soon after and that was the end of poor Casper. :P And no, I don't have an imaginary friend now. I felt silly enough for having one as a kid. Could you imagine how I'd feel if I had one now? :P LOL What about you? Did you ever have one? And do you have one now?

I never had one myself. I would likely be as unoriginal as casper too. LOL However people think I have an imaginary friend because they often see me talking to myself. LOL

My kids nor I never had an imaginary friend. My son use to play with rocks and tumble weeds and call them his pets. He would go by houses and call the peaked roofs his triangles. But not imaginary friends. We all have our problems or our good points.

My son never had an imaginary friend, but he talked to his hands like they were real people. He still does sometimes. He would even hold his hands by his face when you were taking his picture so his hand friends could be in the picture.
