Eyebrow Maintenance

November 28, 2007 12:47pm CST
So, this one's mainly for the girls, but guys can always answer, too (we can't be sexist, now, can we?) - what's your preferred method of eyebrow maintenance? Threading, waxing, plucking, or d'you just not bother with them? If you don't, why not? Alternatively, if you've tried a few methods, which, in your opinion, is the best? Which is the most painful? I personally pluck mine, as waxing is just too much of a pain to do at home, and I can never be bothered to go to a salon - I am considering getting my eyebrows threaded, though, but it looks very painful. If anyone else has had theirs threaded, I'd appreciate you sharing your experiences!

I'm a plucker. I tried waxing them once, but it hurt a bit and the area got red a puffy for a couple hours after. Luckily, my brows aren't too out of control, so it's just a few pulls every couple of days and that's it. I don't even know what threading is, but if it involves a needle, you can bet I won't be doing it! ;-)

Threading is done using a string that they seem to wind and twist then use the tightened part to pluck hairs from the eyebrows. Sorry if it sounds complicated, I can't describe it anymore better than this :p

Threading doesn't involve a needle, lol. It's basically a piece of string, twisted between the therapist's hands, and then used to catch any stray hairs. It's pretty easy to learn, actually, I learnt it at college, but I can't do it on myself, so I don't know how much it hurts!

I pluck sometimes, and had them waxed last year because I was too lazy to be bothered, but honestly I find just trimming them with a tiny pair of sharp scissors works the best for me. I get great shape, there's no pain or redness and it only takes 5 minutes a few times a week to keep them looking great. One of my roommates years ago clued me into it and I use it almost all the time. The only time I bother plucking or waxing is if I need my brows looking perfect for photos or something.

I used to use a small pair of nail scissors on myself, but I got told off in beauty college, by my tutor - apparently cutting the hairs means that the hairs grow back a completely different way to what they're supposed to.

I use eyebrow razors. They are very convenient to use, it is done as quickly as possible and no pain either. I just shave the excess eyebrows and do it on a weekly basis. I have also tried plucking. My goodness, it is too painful.

The first time my eyebrows got shaped was about 4 years ago when my girl friends and I attended a Women's Expo exhibit. We tried the free makeup booths and a beautician there shaved the underside of my brows to give them more definition. Since then, I've been plucking (at least once a week) all the hairs that grow outside the shaped contour. I've seen threading done on TV but it seems painful. I can't even begin to imagine what my brows would look like after if I got a person to do and she turns out not to be an expert at threading. *shivers*

Hah, I know what you mean! The thought of someone not knowing what they're doing, when you're pretty much at their mercy scares me, too. I'm a trained beautician, so I usually do my own eyebrows, but I have been considering having them threaded - I've been doing them for my friends for years, as I learnt at college, but can't do it on myself very well, so I was thinking of going - not sure that I'm brave enough, though!

I pluck my eyebrows. Its free and can be done anytime and anywhere compared to threading and waxing that you have to go to salons to do it. Threading is alot similar to plucking the difference is threading is quick.

I wax my own eyebrows. I find that you get a much cleaner finish with waxing as you get all the hairs. It also doesn't take as long which is really good with a busy schedule! I just use nads facial wand. It is so easy!

I just use tweezers and pluck my eyebrows myself at home. I do not like going to the salon because I do not like strangers touching me. I prefer tweezers over any other method because there is more control with tweezers, because you are only removeing one hair at a time, sothere is less chance of slipping and ending up with a bald spot in your eyebrow.
