Just as people are getting their annual flu shots here they come with the news that there has been some dangerous symptoms connected with the drug Tamilflu(sp). This drug has been touted as a wonder drug in the war against flu. Now there are reports of people throwing themselves off buildings and other strange behaviors after taking it. I'm sorry folks, but I don't want to become a guinea pig for the pharmaceutical companies!

Nope, I don't wanna be a guinea pig for the pharmaceutical companies either! It's absurd that they don't warn people of these horrible side effects before they take the meds! I thought that's what clinical trials were supposed to be for...to gauge the side effects. I just don't understand how they can put something like that on the market...it seems to me that the benefits are not worth the risk. What is strange is that my old doctor said her mother was the one who "created" Tamiflu. It makes me wonder how she must feel about that now. How sad.

Yes, MyLinns, and it's even sadder for those unfortunate people who trusted that the medicine was safe to take.

Hmmm, I had heard something but hadn't read the entire news piece. We don't vaccinate, and that includes for the flu.

I have not taken a flu shot in over 30 years, lillake, and I don't plan to start now.

I do think that they approve things without knowing the long term side effects. I think that they also have some to cure things and will not put it out because it would mean that it would cure people and they would not need others.

I had the flu really bad in the beginning of last year and my doctor gave me a script for Tamiflu.I had no adverse side effects other than that I felt way better within just a couple of days. I think sometimes there is just more hype to things like that....than actual truth.

I havent heard of Tamiflu specifically so I don't know if it's used in infants but it sure makes me glad we passed on the baby's flu shot today after reading this...not that he could hurl himself off a building or anything but still. I had planned on having him get it but his regular immunizations went wrong so we just stopped while we were ahead.

Maybe my theory about flu cures is different. I pretty much let it run it's course and drink lots of fluids. Wonder what is in Tamiflu that causes odd behavior? Thanks for an interesting discussion.
