My poor little baby!

He had his check up today and needed two immunizations. The fist one went as well as could be expected but when the nurse stuck the second needle in he failed really hard, almost fell off my lap and caused the needle to come out! It scratched down his leg and stuck in a second time before she could get free to pull it way away from him. Then she had to go get a new one so there I sat with a screaming baby and blood all over and trying to nurse him to calm him down all while wearing my new white sweater. He's fine now and sleeping thankfully. He's just over 20 pounds and 28 3/8 inches long, not bad for being born at 7 ponds 5 ounces and 18 inches long just over a year ago!

He ended up having the opposite reaction as his dad and brothers and was totally hyper after that first nap. I didn't get him to sleep again until 10:00 last night and he was up bright and early this morning and ready to go!

That's great! I guess our bodies do react differently to everything. Good to hear he didn't have any reactions.

I know she felt horrible but I was the one holding the arm that got loose and started the whole thing so we were both apologizing to each other.

I think next time (in 3 months) I'll tell them I'll gladly wait until there is a second nurse or somebody in there to help with it. That way there will be 4 hands to hold him plus the person holding the needle.

Awe the poor little guy . I would have been really upset with the nurse if that had happened with any of my children ( although it may not have been her fault ) , but I still would have felt so bad for my little one that I would not have been impressed in the least . Hopefully he won't remember this the next time he has to get a needle . They grow up way to fast . I can remember each of my chidren when they were little and when I look at them I often wonder how they got so big without me realizing it at the time . One minute you are holding your baby and the next you are going to graduation for them . I think I see this more because I have older children and younger children and realize how fast my older children grew on me and how much more I need to focus on now so as not to miss a thing when they are older . Your little guy is a real nice size . He is almost as big as my two year old :)

It wasn't really her fault but I know what you mean. What bothered me is that they didn't have a second (third counting me) person in there to help hold him. I don't mind helping but I think the one holding the needle shouldn't be responsible to also hold a leg or arm down. I kind of understand about the older ones and younger ones. My oldest is almost 12 and sometimes I look at her and can't figure out when she grew up. Same with the 9 and 7 year old. Then I see the little ones and realize just how short of a time they will be little.

Your poor little baby. The nurse should have been more careful. I hope that your child forget this awful experience and doesn't remember it when he has his next needle. When my son had his needles they usually had two of us hold him whilst the nurse gave him the injection. One time I didn't hold him still enough and the needle came out a bit and then went back in. The nurse was quite rude to me. I felt bad enough as it was and there was two of us holding him. Babies are very strong. I hope your son feels better poor little man.

She was trying to be careful. It's a small office so there was only one nurse available to do the immunizations. Luckily he's only a year old so I doubt he'll remember anything by the time he needs more.

THat is so hard. I hate when babies cry like that. We don't vaccinate for religious reasons, but I can't stand to hear babies when they are like that.

It is hard to hear them cry but I know it's for their own good (I didn't mean that against your choices!) One of the ones he got yesterday was to protect him from chicken pox. I still have scars from when I had it so I'm glad he won't have to deal with that.

Awwwww Im sorry it didnt go so well for the little man. Geez! how did that happen? I guess he moved. Im sure it took alot to calm him down. Wash your new sweater first in cold water let it soak for a while with some woolite. Then was in the washer. I hope it comes out for you.

Yeah, he "flailed"...I forgot the first L when I wrote it...really really hard when she stuck the second needle in and we lost our grip on him. He cried til he vomitted actually, then cried some more about that before he calmed down...then he slept. My sweater is soaking in cold water right now and it already looks like a lot has come out. Thanks!

I am sorry he had to go through that. My boys are 20 and 15. When I was reading that, it brought back alot of memories. Enjoy the good and take in the bad. One day you will look back on that moment and smile. Enjoy every moment with your baby. Thay dont stay little long.

Poor thing! That's terrible, I bet he didn't like that experience! It's good that you were there to soothe him though. I am glad that he made it through his immunizations and all that. He sounds like he is doing wonderfully!

He is doing great....I wish he'd put some of his "growing energy" into growing some hair since he's still just about as bald as he was at birth lol but I'm really proud of where he's at developmentally.

I remember those days! I hated taking my babies for their shots even though I knew they needed them. My son was horrible and always got sick no matter what the shot was for. I'm happy those days are over with and their all adults now.

I'm glad we're almost done with it too. I think he'll have 2 or 3 more rounds as a baby and then 1 more before school but then he'll be older before he needs more and my other two younger ones both just need the 1 round before school. The 3 little ones have their dad's temperment about shots, he sleeps for a day after anything like that (even as an adult) and so do they.

I am so sorry, but glad he is doing fine now. Here is my horror story with immunizations: We went to get my youngest his second shot. The lady who did it the first time wasn't there, so it was another lady. And because she was older, I thought she would be good, but the way the needle went in, wasn't straight. It looked much more painful because it looked like it was twisted into his skin. Needless to say, all the other times he had his shots, I made sure the first lady was there before going in..

Geesh, that does sound painful! I think sometimes they get so used to doing procedures they forget that there is a real live, feeling person on the other end and aren't always as careful as they should be.

Ouch...that must really hurt. Just by thinking of your little boy's ordeal makes me feel the pain too. I thought nurses are trained not to just stuck the needle to their patient, especially babies, they need to ensure the baby is calm and secured. I'm thankful he's okay now...

He was calm and secure for the first one, it happened on the second one whuch she was trying to get done quickly so I could calm him down. It wasn't really her fault I'm the one that lost hold of his arms.

I feel so bad for him, kiss the little tyke for me. I know you feel bad, but hey here something to cheer you up, I took my daughter who is now nine years old last year to get her shots and she is very afraid of needles, any way she is very tall for her age and when the doctor tried to stick her with the needle she climbed up and over the nurse who was standing next to the doctor, it took 4 or us to hold her down, now she doesnt even remember it, so dont freak out he wont remember.

Oh my! Your poor daughter! At least she doesn't remember it. My oldest daughter remebers all of hers and gets so worked up before hand she's actually physically ill before getting her shots. I don't know why though because afterwards she's always saying it wasn't that bad.
