The last digital camera I bought, cost around $15 and was one of those cheap web cam things. It took horrible green pictures. And, it broke the minute my little girl got hold of it.
Now, I'm in the market for a really good, but affordable digital camera so that I can take photos of my home made products to sell on my website. I've checked places like online Target and Walmart, but everything seems so expensive.
What's the average price of a really good digital camera that takes decent pictures? What would you spend? Do you think that there are any decent digital cameras to be found on Ebay? And, what type of accessories would I need? Would appreciate suggestions.

If you are just looking for a camera to list things online I wouldn't go crazy but if you want it to take pictures of your kids I would get a little better one.
Do you have a price range?
Get the most megapixels you can for your budget. I would think you could get a decent camera for $150 US. Nothing over the top but would take good pictures.
I went from a 3.1 MP to a 7.1 MP and the difference in the clarity of the pictures is just mind blowing. I would say a 5MP would probably be good.
Also I know a couple people who have bought their cameras off Ebay and had pretty good luck with it.

Queenie, its like this.
I hover around 100 or more since I use my for fun and professional purposes, its quite good. But there are decent ones at 50-75.

Tigerdirect is also a good choice for choosing cameras, much more are available in various price ranges.

As for the camera
Most times more megapixels is good but you don't need to be excessive if its for casual purposes. I do not recommend a 1-2 megapixel camera if you want more use of the camera and quality from the images.(They are rare now, but I think some novelty cameras are out with this kind of quality, for like 10-15 bucks) 5-6 should be good for family purposes, though 7-8 cameras can be found at similar prices.
Also look for image quality and settings. Having a small-medium-large option is great (this is represented in pixels by pixels, so if you see multiple entries you should be good). You don't really need a video option, but if you want it, a good number of not as expensive cameras have it.
Zoom quality shouldn't be too much of an issue for your purposes. Usually optical zoom is better than digital zoom, but you need optical stabilization. Probably not an issue for you Queenie, having a camera with digital zoom 4 or more should be good.
So really unless you want something else, you may end up spending around 75-125.
But I think the links maybe able to give you an idea of what is out there, at least online.
Oh and most times the stores and online stores offer a warranty. The manufacturer may have one along with it too, so try to check that out as well.

$15 is really cheap for a digital camera. A digital camera in my country costs at least a few hundred bucks. My budget for a digital camera would be around $300. I think this is a reasonable price to pay for a good digital camera (8 megapixels) that takes good and sharp pictures. A good digital camera can also last for more than 2 years. I think it's a worthwhile investment. I usually make my purchase of electronic goods in a electronic store. The brands I like include Sony, Nikon, Fujifilm and Canon. I think you can consider these 4 brands. I have never bought an electronic item online. I prefer to test drive the camera before actually buying it. =D

A really good camera...I would have to say about USD$300 to USD$400...
I'm not sure if it is advisable to purchase digital cameras on ebay as warranty coverage may be an issue...Better check before you buy..
Also, if you are taking photos of home made products, you don't really need to spend a lot on camera accessories...In fact, learning how to shoot good images and having steady hands are more important than the accessories...

The last member is right, they are getting cheaper! I bought my current camera for a little over $400, and now they sell ones that are wayyyy better! Personally, I don't need anything too great, so I wouldn't spend much more. I only take pics for personal use and eBay, so it doesn't really matter much. The one I use now is 5 megapixels, and takes really nice pics...its a FujiFilm FinePix E510, and it came with a small memory card that holds only like 50 pics, but I was able to buy a much much bigger one for $25, since those are pretty cheap. Most cameras come with everything you need, like the USB cable and a memory card, so you shouldn't have to buy too much more.

Have you looked on Amazon. They seem to have pretty good and resonable prices on there. It also depends on what you are looking for on your camera. Circut City or Staples are a couple of other good places to look for cameras.

I bought a digital camera a few years ago off of ebay for $100. It's a Minolta Dimage E323 and I love it. It takes great pictures and you can zoom and crop the pictures right in the camera. It also has a bunch of features I don't use often, but the basic controls are very easy to use. I've used it to put up pictures on ebay and it is great. This exact camera would be considered "old" and out of date now, but I'm sure you can find one of similar quality with more mega pixels (mine has 3.2) for under $100 on ebay. I don't need any accessories with my camera, other than the cable to hook itto the computer (which it came with).
When you look in the stores for a camera, they are only going to carry the latest models. On ebay, you can find a slightly older model that just didn't sell and is still new or a refurbished camera that will work great and still cost less than a "new" one.
Whatever one you get, I would recommend keeping it out of the hands of young children since digital cameras are not the most rugged things to own.
Good Luck.

Hello beauty queen. It is a good buy that you got the last digital camera at the price 15 dollars. You see, digital and electronic products are getting cheaper and cheaper nowadays. When I bought my Canon Digital Camera in 2004, it was rather expensive, which cost me more than $500, but later this brand camera of the same style is much cheaper than it used to, like $200 or less. Now there are many brands of digital cameras on sale, and they are cheap and good quality. I hope that you would get one good digital camera that you like. Well, I think that Sony brand is a nice one. I love its lens very much and it offers very good quality pictures as well and it is cheap as well. Thanks for your discussion, dear friend.
