My son, who is in high school came home the other day and told me about a girl in his class who supposedly is using her camera phone to take pictures of other teenage girls and giving them to a pedophile. Supposedly one of the girls whose picture she took received a frightening phone call from the guy. I don't know whether to alert the authorities about this or to just dismiss it as rumor. The girl in question is very upopular and I wonder if she is just saying things to "torment" the in crowd for her own sick pleasure. What would you do?

Turn her in. I'm sure by now the school has a zero tolerance policy. If there is even a chance that it might be true then something should be done quickly. Imagine if you didn't say something and one of the girls gets taken? The school should check her phone immediately.

My brother is the youth parole officer for my county. I asked my mom yesterday to talk to him about it, b/c he wasn't home when I called. I haven't followed up with her yet to find out what he said.

I would certaintly turn her in. Whether it is just a prank or not it should be taken seriously. Kids don't know just how dangerous some pranks can get. If the girl did give photographs of another to a character like that she might be in danger. I would simply tell the authorities that it was heard as a rumor, but wanted to report it in case something happens.
