I just spent the whole afternoon baking

Canada
November 29, 2007 6:16pm CST
And I'm not done yet! I made gingerbread and shortbread cookies and then I baked off a package of Pillsbury "Snowman" cookies. I'm still going to make homemade chocolates, cherry surprises, nanaimo bars, and mint fudge. So, do you do a lot of baking for Christmas? I end up taking a plate everywhere I go between now and new years so it never goes to waste! I love baking and I do this every year...I may even do more if I find another recipe in one of my cook books... So do you enjoy baking for your family and friends in the holidays? Do you give it for gifts? Share all of your holiday baking stories (good and the flops) here or fess up on purchasing ready made from the store! It's O.K I don't judge! Happy Baking to all and to all a good night ~Heavens~

MMM baked goods! I haven't really baked a lot for a few years. I just made my friend a cake the other day for her birthday. I don't think my stuff is really nice enough to be given away as presents but I'd like to bake more. I'm going to make rice kripie squares in snowmen shapes and decorate them. I think this should be a lot of fun and easy to do.

Thanks so much for your response here Monkeyrose. I use my baking more to take places rather than give as gifts but everyone generally enjoys what I bring.... I hoe you enjoy making your rice crispie squares...The secret is to melt your marshmallows and then remove from heat before you add the rice crispies.

Thank you so much for the hint! I haven't made rice krispie squares since I was a child. Even then I think my mom mostly made them. I haven't made them yet so your advice will help.

I bake in spurts when the urge takes me. Last week was one of those. I made cholate chip cookie 3 different times, a mint chocolate pudding pie for thanksgiving, an oreo cream pie for thanksgiving, and peppermint brownies!

I baked a whole lot more when I lived closer to my family. Now I make the random batch of cookies, and tonight I am going to make Christmas cupcakes. I don't give baked goods as gifts because everyone lives to far away now. When I get back home for Christmas I will probably help my mom though. I also will be making my apple-pecan scones for my dad like I do every Christmas morning. I used to make them for him twice a year, Thanksgiving and Christmas mornings. But now that I live so far away, it's only on Christmas.

Shut Up! Quit Bragging! LOL!!!! I LOVE baking cookies! It is just that now I am the only one here to eat them!! Not that I'd mind eating them all, but I can't afford to buy new clothes when all that weight gets packed on! Years ago, I'd bake Cookie Baskets for my friends and family gift exchange. Everyone one wanted mine!!!! I'd do a favorite of the person and then differnet, and unique ones and a few staples thrown in. My first thing to do on Monday morning is to make Snickerdoodles and Peppermint Chip cookies ( chocolate chip ocokies but with peppermint chips instead!)

I help my mom do a lot of the baking. It takes us about a week to do all of it. Then I get a whole bunch from her. We bake mostly German recipe cookies. My favourtie ones are sugar cookies. They are easy to make and oh so good. All you use for them is 3 egg white with 9 tablespoons of sugar. Beat them till really fluffy. Spoon it on a cookie sheet and put in oven on 150 degrees for about 2 1/2 to 3 hours, to dry them out. Of course, since they are mostly sugar they are very fattening, lots of calories. I love them and so do the kids.

That's great! Snowman cookies???? did i read correctly, I love those!! can I have some, please? please? give cookie monster a cookie :P When we bake something here, the smell goes all the way into the living room due to oven having a fan inside. very homely sell, which I haven't smelt for years. not since all these modern things are "electric" only. kudos, ~Joey

Hi heavenschild, The thought of all of this baking you're doing, is making me very hungry. I can 'almost' taste it. I used to do quite a bit of baking when I was younger, but have gotten away from it, for various reasons. Maybe one of these days again ... My daughter loves to bake, but her problem is, she can't find the time these days. I'm sure the homes you visit, love to receive these goodies.;) Yummy topic! Take Care.

This week I have made mint chocolate cookies and cookies and cream fudge. I love to bake and I do it all the time especially during the winter months. I never use a mix. I always make mine from scratch.
