What is everyone's opinion on the new HPV shot that is now available?

Personally I think this is marvelous! HPV is one of the biggest STD's out there and not many people here about or know that they carry it. Its very scary because it can cause a lot of damage especially to females. As soon as my daughter turns 9 she is getting the shot. I myself have had it as soon as it came out, because you just never know!

You couldn't pay me enough to inject that poison into my kids (if I had any). That shot does not guard against all strains of HPV as there are over 200 out there. It may or may not protect against the 4 or so that cause cervical cancer. The vax hasn't been on the market long enough to judge what the side effects are. Does it cause cancer or infertility? Will it make it harder to conceive later on down the road? Does it cause you to want to act like a chicken every 3rd Thursday of the month? You put the words "cancer" and "vaccine against" into the same sentence and people lose their minds and blindly step in line to inject their girls with this toxin. Remember how MMR shots were all the rage in the 80s? Now Autism is on the rise thanks to mercury preservatives in the vaxes. Again, you couldn't pay me. And as long as your dtr is not a wh0re and doesn't sleep with anything with a d*ck, she'll be fine.

You my dear unselfish are selfish and when it comes to this discussion you are rude and uneducated...It has nothing to do with being a wh*re and you would know that if you asked your doctor about it. If you would like I will get a written statement for you from numerous physicians that can tell you that this vaccine was tested for 6 years before being released on the market and that its not just from wh*ring around as you put in that people contract this virus. I want you to think about that the next time you sit on a public toilet seat where someone wiped and then touched the lid..Or even the next time you make love to your husband make sure he has washed his hands because you never know what surface he could have touched at work and is now spreading to you. There is no need to respond to this discussion or be rude anymore please.

I agree with you. I think its a great idea that they came out with that shot. Is there any down sides to having it though? I havent had it yet as i am pregnant right now. But i would definitely like to. Many women dont even realize they have it which is so sad. And i dont really think it affects men from what i have heard.

It has shown in recent studies that Men can get penile and rectal cancer for it. I guess within a few years the shot will be available for them too! Which is great in my opinion. Men rarely get any symptoms from the virus though. So I think thats why even fewer men know they have it. So far they have done a 10 year study on this shot...4 of that was just in the lab under the microscope and needles 6 went to actual testing before it was released. As far as I know there are no side effect other than maybe some irritation at the inject site. Its like the rest of the vaccines you or your kids get such as polio/rubella/and the Hib shots. I appreciate your reply and good luck with your pregnancy! :)

yeah, i didn't think it did either. but it is something to look into considering one of the responders above said that it might cause penile and rectal cancer (or something like that) so they might start giving it to guys too. What a nasty nasty virus!

I think it's awesome that there is finally something available for this, for the same reasons too. While I am still a firm believer in yearly exams to make sure everything is ok, and even more if you have something or are at higher risk, I think it's great that there is finally a preventive measure being taken against something that is so dangerous for so many women!

Is your daughter going to be s*xually active when she turns nine? Are you going to hand her a package of birth control pills and say, "Okay dear, go and sleep with the guys. Mother knows you will." I do not think so and unless the girl is already having s*x at nine years old, there is no need for her to get the HPV shot until she is at least fourteen and best at sixteen and only if she acts as if she plans to sleep around. If all girls were born with it or were, God forbid, victims of s*xual abuse when they were children, you do not need to give it unless the girl is likely to lose her virginity.

Yeah this place can be great, except when people want to turn a discussion into a debate. Its okay, but do it on their own discussion if they are going to do that.lol:)

I think it is great! If I would have known about or if they would have had it when I was a teenager maybe I wouldn't have it now. It is so normal that most women have it, but it can be so dangerous if left untreated and especially if you smoke! The doc told me that if I started again that it would up my chances of getting cervical cancer! No thank you!As for starting your daughter on it at 9...why would you do that;-) I mean, is she a little hoochie already? ;-) Hey, check it...I am only kidding;-)
