What are the ways you can connect to the internet from a laptop? We also have a desktop at my house, it's connected to the internet by a cable modem. Is there any way the laptop can connect from that? Or would I need another seperate modem? Please and thanks.

Hi All! This is my second post in mylot discussions, and here goes . . . There are several ways a laptop can connect to the Internet. If the laptop has an analog modem, it can be used as a dial-up access to connect to the Internet. But since it is dial-up, consider it to be slow. If the laptop has an ehternet port, it can utilize that port and get hooked on the Internet via a cable / DSL modem, or via a corporate network. It will be considerably faster this way as compared to dial-up access. And lastly, if the laptop has a wifi card, it can connect to the Internet wirelessly, provided that there are Internet hotspots available.

Someone else already covered it but yes getting a different router to split it or convert it to wireless can help your laptop. Its pretty neat.

My laptop has a built in card and my husband bought and hooked up a router to his computer. I am on wirelessly. It didn't cost all that much.
