Do you regulate your kids' TV watching?

I have an eleven year old son and he's so addicted to watching cartoons. I'm not sure if this is normal. My wife and I only regulate his TV watching through the results of his exams in school. Meaning, he can have more time in watching TV if he makes good grades in school. How about you, do you regulate your kids TV watching too?

My children also like to watch TV. But when we said that they need to stop watching, they will listen to us and turn off the television. So I don't really have a problem with that.

Of course, there should always be reasons that you must explain to your kids why they should stop watching TV!! Kids also have the right to know why their activities are being regulated...

I only limit it if they aren't behaving. They pretty much watch what my dad will let them since my husband uses the other TV all day (to play video games). They have a TV in their room with a DVD player (the TV isn't hooked up to the cable so it is only good for watching DVDs). So they watch their movies a lot. Nothing wrong with watching cartoons. I loved them at that age. They were fun and relaxing to watch. Hey, I'm 30 and I still love to watch cartoons and will turn them on even when the kids aren't around. I especially like Rugrats.

Thank you for commenting. I guess I'm just being narrow minded. Watching cartoons isn't so bad, but I will still have to regulate his TV watching if he is misbehaving.

My child isn't interested in watching TV. But I think we should still regulate children to watch TV. As watching it for a long time will be harmful for eyes. As long as chilren won't watch it for a long time, that's OK and I won't care about it.

My son always has a limit on how much time he get to watch television. His time is also determined by his behavior. If he is misbehaving at school or at home his television time is cut in half and sometimes totally taken away.

I also believe that letting them watch TV is a reward for having good behavior.

I honestly don't have a time limit for my kids on the TV. I think they do a pretty good job of regulating themselves, anyway. We do have restrictions on the TV if chores aren't getting done, homework is being done too sloppy, or if their behavior is poor. Maybe I'm not worried about it because my husband and I are pretty big on the TV ourselves. A lot of time we all watch a show or movie together in the evening after all daily obligations are taken care of.

Thank you for your comment. I think in any way we can as parents, we always find ways to get our children's attention by regulating soem of their activities when they are misbahaving or school performances aren't good.

i THINK should let child watch TV but should have time limited, otherwise will delay the home work and also impact study and rest, watching TV can learn knowlege but also can impact a lot, so should watching with limited time. when I was young My parents also request me like that everday just watch 1 hour. and leave enough time to read book and have rest.
