Have you started getting Christmas cards yet? Do you send any out?

Most of the people who live in my apartment building slip cards under our doors for the holidays and I already have 5. I also have one that my Aunt sent to me and she's always the first one I know to start sending them out. I sent out quite a few this year myself and mailed them yesterday just to get rid of them. Have you received any Christmas cards? Are you sending any in the mail this year? Are there some people who you just hand cards to?

I don't like cards, period. I don't know what you're supposed to do with cards. So I rarely give them for anything. Birthday, Holidays, etc. etc. I also don't really receive any except our departments at work do. And we've been getting them for a little over a week. Down with Cards!

lol...I've been saving cards my kids have given me for years. For me , since I live alone, I enjoy looking at the cards and reading whatever the sender wrote in them.

I just don't get cards. (and by get I don't mean physically get I mean mentally get). I live alone but I don't frequent old cards. Maybe I'll get it when I'm older :p

I haven't received any Christmas cards yet but then I haven't sent mine out yet either. I don't really send many these days and hand deliver most of them. I'm sure some will start arriving soon though. I'm guessing the first will be from my son and daughter-in-law in California - they are usually pretty consistant on sending cards shortly after Thanksgiving.

I've been debating on sending cards to my out of town cousins this year because they lost their father about a year ago and I don't know if it's appropriate.

Seems that you guys and gals in the neighborhood are pretty close! I used to send out tons of Christmas cards. Not all respond. I have not done that for some time. Why bother? Besides cards and postage cost money.

I was lucky this year and got my box of cards for free. As for the postage....I only sent out about 4 cards so it wasn't bad.

Yes and Yes! I always buy my Christmas cards the day after Christmas for the next year. So it is not as expensive that way. Then at the beginning of Nov. I normally start addressing them and the first Monday after Thanksgiving I mail them out. The reason is because a couple of years ago I waited until the second week of December and some people didn't get my cards until after Christmas. So I mail mine out early so that way everyone gets them before Christmas. Then of course my neighbors I hand deliver and will be doing that next week. As for having gotten any cards yet this year, I have. I just recieved my first card today. It was from my husband's niece.

I buy my cards after Christmas too and now that I'm working in a store I can't wait for the day after to do some shopping there.

I am going to send out Christmas cards but I need to take the photo for them first. I keep telling myself that I am going to do it. Then I find something better to do. There are a few people that my husband will just hand the cards to, but those are just his friends at work. Most of our friends and family are out of state so we have to mail them. Maybe tomorrow I will actually do it if my husband is feeling better.

Since you have so much going on in your life I can understand not having time to do it.

I don't plan to send out any cards this Christmas, ctry, because most of the people that I used to send them to are gone. I never receive more than a few either. It seems that most people these days don't want to go to the trouble of sending out cards. You're very lucky to give and receive cards still.

I loved sending them and did about 50 every year. But as I never received any back, each year it would dwindle as to how many I sent out till now, my my kids and grand daughter is the only one I send to! And they send back!

I don't think I ever sent out 50 in my life! My family is small and I've never had a lot of friends.

Yes! I have signed and addressed mine, just haven't sent them out. My daughter is perfecting printing her first name, and we needed to get a head start. We finished earlier than I thought. She is so proud. Just waiting until Dec 1 to mail them out. Don't know feels better, like it's December, go!

It's so cute when the little ones sign their names to the cards...especially when they just learned to write it.

There are so many choices when it comes to cards I always have a hard time picking something I really like. I'm sure you will find something.

A couple of years ago i used to send Christmas Day cards to EVERY SINGLE person i could think of. (i did cost me a little penny though) I would sign it, write a nice little saying or message, put a giftcard to Starbucks or whatever, and include some family photos. Recently the last couple of years, i have just been too busy to concern myself over such matters. My husband always tried to tell me that nobody really cared about the cards, so that i wouldn't stress out about them or save us a couple dollars by not doing them at all lol). I think next year I'm gonna try to get some done, this year is a little too late and my budget is a little too tight. Ohh. and i mail cards to everyone, even if it's just my next door neighbor. I don't like the feeling of "gift exchanges" even if they aren't really a "gift". hehe

I've gotten one so far from my aunt and uncle. I've sent two out: One to my cousin and one to my aunt and uncle who sent me mine. I post on another message board and we're doing a Christmas card exchange. I expect to get quite a few through that board.

I can remember when I was younger, my family received close to a hundred Christmas cards each year. Now, I don't think that my parents and I combined hit double digits! Seems that the high cost of postage and other things have practically done away with Christmas card mailings! I send them to folks who I won't see in person over the holidays or that I won't likely call on the phone. I only mail about 10 Christmas cards.

Most cards these days just say Merry Xmas and not much else, very impersonal in my view. So mostly it's a waste of resources and as an environmentalist I can't see a reason to send out all those paper cards. I'd rather email my friends this time of year, check in see how they are and how their year has been. I don't send cards anymore, and I've asked people to send us ecards for xmas, birthdays etc as well.

Yes there are cards going into the mail for posting Yes there are cards that will be hand delivered to the person. I like the idea of getting cards the day after Christmas for the next year, but I am not the best at keeping things in safe places so they don't get lost. This is exactly when they would be lost on me.

Yes, for the first time I've gotten my Christmas cards ready early. Now I just have to get them to the mailbox. I think it's a great time to get in touch with people who you haven't kept up with as well as you should have throughout the year.
