Last night was incredibly painful for me and the family. I have lost yet another pet, this time to some stupid careless driver that hit her right in front of my house. One of the neighbors from down the street came and knocked on our door and told her that my beloved cat, Nipper, was dead in the street. From the look of her face and back, I think she died instantly, which makes it a tiny bit easier to deal with. She was still very limp and loose when hubby picked her up, so it must have happened just before the neighbors came to the door. The sad thing is, we live on the last block of our street, and it is a dead end....cars can't even go through the alley anymore because the city closed it off. But there are a couple of people here that drive way too fast, and I'm thinking it's one of them that hit her. She was one of my semi feral outside babies. I was just getting to where I could pet her while she was eating. I am so upset right now, and am crying as I am typing this. How can people be so careless? How can they drive so fast in a neighborhood where there are beloved pets, and more yet...young children? I am praying that it was someone that simply didn't see her, and not someone that had a hatred of cats. My sweet kitty, I miss you so very much. I wish you were here with me still. But I know that you are now reunited with my beloved Meg, Baby Boots, and all the rest of my canine and feline children that have gone over the Rainbow Bridge. I love you my wonderful Nipper.

oh kat, I'm so sorry to hear this...I'm crying for you to!! It is hard to lose a pet like that. Poor kitty, but at least you gave her a good life while she was here, and she didn't suffer at the end. Don't you wish it was against the law to kill an animal in a car!! I give you a big hug and a shoulder to cry on. I'm sure nipper is having fun right now with the rest of your feine children. All I can say is I'm so sorry!! I love you and give you a big hug...

I wish people would just be more careful. I accidentally ran over a little dog last year that animal control had been trying to catch next to the highway. He darted right in front of my car, and I couldn't stop in time. I cried for days. I just can't fathom how something like this doesn't even faze some people because they are so heartless. Thanks for the hugs and the shoulder my friend. You are such a wonderful friend. Big hugs right back to you hon.

That's what I'm hoping too. But there are a couple of people on this block that have swerved toward her on purpose right in front of me. If I find out it was them, it's not going to be very pretty around here. But don't worry, I'm not knocking on doors....yet. Thanks so much my friend.

I am so very sorry for your loss... losing a pet is never easy. My biggest fear is our dog getting hit when she gets loose. She often will slip through the fence and run through the neighborhood. Luckily we live in the country, but cars still go down our road and don't always follow the speed limits! Again, I'm sorry for your loss...

That actually happened to my mother in law's dog just before Thanksgiving. She had the habit of running down the driveway and out to the street to greet whichever one of us happened to show up. My FIL's truck was on the lawn, and another vehicle was parked at the curb, and since it was dark, the poor girl that hit her didn't even see her. Fortunately, it ended up only giving BabyGirl a bump on the head and a bit lip. I have to admit, though that the girl was kind enough to come back and offer to pay any bills from a vet if necessary. She was actually shaking from head to toe when she parked out front, because she was pretty shaken up. Now why can't more people be that compassionate and considerate when things like that happen? Thanks so much hon. Sorry about the rambling....I think my brain is still a bit addled from the last few days. Big hugs to you.

I am so sorry KatLady. Two of my dogs a decade ago were hit by cars, and I found them right in front of my driveway. There is nothing like discovering your own deceased pet. The sorrow is unimaginable, because it could have been prevented so easily. I'm about in tears because I'm reminded of Max, my dog which was 3 feet away from our curb, turned on his side as if he was sleeping. Maybe your discussion will be read if not responded to, by people who DO drive too carelessly. That cat could have been a child that briefly got away from a parent. Obbviously the person didn't care about that or they would have asked the houses around who the cat belonged to. Once again, I am so sorry and I pray that God will ease some of your grief.

God has definitely been helping me through this. If it wasn't for Him, and my wonderful friends here, I don't know what I would do. I'm lucky that the neighbor from down the street is such a good friend, otherwise we probably wouldn't have found her until morning since it was dark when it happened. He is as much of an animal lover as I am. And his dog got hit a few months ago, and he had to rush him to the vet at 2am, and his dog was able to be saved. So he always watches out for my babies just like I do. Thank you so much hon for being here for me. I appreciate it more than you know. Hugs to you hon.

Yes, Nipper is one of my furry daughters, and that closeness to my pets makes it even more painful to lose them. But I wouldn't give them up for the world. Thanks so much my wonderful friend.

I'm sorry dear Katlady. I probably can't say anything that will help. I do feel the pain though. I also feel a bit of rage at the bad drivers and (hopefully not the case but) the cat haters. Its seems like cats are hated but everyone has to stop and salute for dogs since they can do no wrong *rolleyes*. Sorry, old story. Take the time you need, reflect, rest, let it all out.

Thanks so much hon. I love dogs too, but it just seems sometimes like cats always get the lousy end of the deal. To me that's just plain wrong. Big hugs to you my friend.

Thanks Katlady. I've been through the mud myself in recent days. I'm glad to support people who really need it, and have them do the same for me. I'm hoping your cat is in a better place and I'm wishing the best for you in all of this. Take care of you and your friends.

Oh hun I am so sorry. It is heartbreaking when this happens and, to be honest, I will never understand what people drive so fast in residential areas, and even worse when drivers back out without looking. I know just how painful it is when you lose a cat, and send you hugs.

I'm so very sorry for your loss, Hon. I have tears in my own eyes reading this, and I looked at the picture of your Nipper and she sure was a beautiful kitty! I know she's over the Rainbow Ridge and she's with many of my babies from my lifetime as well. I sure hope it was a terrible accident and not some horrible person who did it on purpose. Bless you for being such a loving person because those who love and care for animals are special people indeed. Annie

I hopoe that by this time the pain of your loss has eased a little. I have lost a few of my 'semi-feral" kitties this way and one very much loved memeber of my family. So I know how horrifying it is to have to pick their broken bodies out of the street after some careless driver (or one who wasn't paying attention and going too fast) left them in their wake. I am so very sorry to hear (read) about this tradgedy, and don't really know what to say to help your healing. Just believe she is sitting in God's lap right now with the wings of angels stroking her tiny face.

You just brought the sweetest picture into my mind...of Nipper sitting there with God and the angels taking turns petting her. Thank you so very much for that hon. Yes, the pain has eased up some, but it still hurts sometimes. I miss her, but at least she is not in pain and she is happy and healthy. Thankyou again and big hugs to you my friend.

Oh, Katlady I can't express how sorry I feel about this. I just don't know what to say, and as you know I've been there myself and do know how you're feeling. If I were to name all my furbabies that are in Rainbow Bridge it would be a very long list. I'm hoping though that your little Nipper is playing with my Footie, Twinkie, Sherkhan, Bobbity, Snoopy..and on and on (((hugs))

I think if I were to name all of mine that were there with yours, I'd have to make my own website just to hold all of their names. I think our babies are definitely playing together, and my Shar Pei...Meg...is right in the middle of them, happy as a clam. Hugs to you too sweetie.

i'm so sorry for your loss. i had three cats when i lived with my parents and now my boyfriend and i have one [who looks almost exactly like nipper did] and i know that losing one of them would be devestating. especially to something like this. that's the reason i'd never want any outdoor animal. i'd be afraid that they'd get hit by someone and killed. again, i'm very sorry.

Thank you so much hon. I have 11 cats altogether now, and 4 of them are outside kitties, but they seem to stick around in the yard or on the porch. Nipper just got too used to vehicles, and wasn't scared by them. Thanks again my friend.

Oh Katlady I'm so sorry. Poor Nipper. You must be so very sad. I feel for you. I hope it was an accident and that he went quickly. This has brought back some sad memories for me too. With Banjo being an outside cat and often going across the road to visit my friend's little dog (and the neighbours chickens) I often think it's only a matter of time. Luckily, there's not much traffic where we live. I'm more afraid of a dog getting him because he has no fear of them and stands his ground. He's a very slight cat in spite of the fact that he eats all day on and off. I'm sure your Nipper is at peace now and happy with his friends.
