Okay I thought I give a bit of an up-date of what is happening about that situation I discussed about with fellow MyLotter, OreoCookie, and her situation about Sassy, her kitten. You can see the discussion I started here: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1343192.aspx?p=1 As you know, OreoCookie's daughter adopted and brought home an adorable little kitty named Sassy. And while her daughter adopted it, Sassy bonded with Oreo, now her son-in-law was never thrilled about the kitten and he's allergic to cats. Anyway, the story goes that Oreo, her daughter and son-in-law have to move, and move into the son-in-law's family home. The real sticky part, is that it's being made quite clear that the kitten can't come with them when they move. Oreo is broken-hearted about this, as I would be. So she asked me for help out in some way, since she knew I had some connections and knew a bit about pet rescues due to my own experiences. She said there aren't many shelters in her area where she lives in Georgia, save for the Animal Care & Control, which is a kill shelter. So right away I made contacts with everyone I could possibly think of. So I posted an urgent message with Petfinders.com...got no response there. I posted the story on the various Yahoo pet rescue groups. I got a few responses, but no one could help. One person said she would love to help but she lived in Maryland...another said the same thing but is in Arizona. I got in contact with my pet rescuer friend upstate NY, and she gave me an email address of someone she thought could help...so I emailed ...no good. The woman is in West Virginia. Then wonderfully another MyLotter, CatsandDogs, who is in NC, yet a rescuer herself and often does "transports" said she be willing to take in Sassy, if not permanently, at least until she can place Sassy. The problem of course, that Oreo who is in GA can't go to NC, and CatsandDogs can't go to GA...but said if transport arrangements could be made, no problem. Now for those of you not familiar with the term "transports"...It is not unusual if local shelters or rescuers can't take in pets, they are "transported" from one state to another as long as arrangements can be made...this goes on all the time believe it or not. So CatsandDogs emailed me and gave me the email of a rescuer who makes arrangements for transports in the southern state region of the US--did that. In the meantime, very late last night, I did a search on the ASPCA website for more possible shelter or rescuers in the GA area, and emailed just about everyone. So far only a few responded...none can help, but a few emailed urgent alerts to rescuers/transporters, and ironically one person that was notified was the same person CatsandDogs knows...small world, no? The bottom line, is that there may be a light in that tunnel now...It's just a question of back and forth contacting between us all, and there just might be the possibility that once things get all connected that Sassy will be transported to NC to CatsandDogs. Okay to make this a discussion. Have any of you, to possibly save the life of a pet, had to get this involved? I've been through this myself last year, so this is kind of familiar territory. But say you had a pet, and you couldn't keep it, did you have to do something similar? Like maybe, give the pet to a relative that lived far away? Please continue your prayers for Oreo and Sassy, and of course, CatsandDogs, that all works out! Thanks ever!

I did talk my grandparents into adopting a kitten that my cat had, so that I didn't have to give her away to a stranger. Thanks for the update!

Keeping Oreo, Sassy, and CatsandDogs in my prayers, along with you and all the others who are involved in pet rescues. I've never been involved in anyway to the extent you all have been but am thrilled. We adopted a beagle, Shilo, 2 weeks ago. The people at the shelter were thrilled to see him find a home but told us he had actually been returned 3 times. I can't understand why, he's an angel and the sweetest dog I've known. You can however tell he's been abused at some point as he cowers any time someone raises their voice or moves too fast. I really need to get some pictures of him - he's curled up on my bed sleeping right now - he's not a morning person and tends to always sleep later than me, but then he seems to sleep alot.

Aw...poor Shilo to be returned like that. Yes, most shelters have policies that if things don't work out that one can return a pet, but I can't help thinking how cruel that is to keep bouncing a pet back and forth like that. Over the years there have been a number of kitties I've adopted but no way would ever think of returning it..Since it's only been two weeks, give him time...he's still adjusting to his new home. Hope you can post pics soon! :)

Thanks so much, Pye, for this update. I'm so glad things are looking up, at least a little bit. If there's no way to get Sassy to NC and someone can get her to Pa. I'd be glad to take her too. I just have no way and unfortunately can't afford to get to Georgia, or I'd have been there already. If you do find a way to go down there and punch out Oreo's SIL, please stop and pick me up, I'd like to take a turn too. And, no, luckily I've never had to go through something similar but I'm so glad to know there are people and organizations that actually help in these kinds of situations. Keep us posted, OK? Annie

Well, that leaves me out as a possible transporter. If Sassy was headed up to MI, WI, MN, IN, I could of helped by transporting her from southern to northern IL and possibly to her destination. Glad to hear Catsanddogs can help. Now if another fellow mylotter can transport, Sassy will be safe. Still praying for ya, Oreo along with Sassy, pye, and now Cats.

I will pray that everything works out and that you can find a way of getting the cat where it needs to be. As far as Oreo goes, I think there is more of an issue with the son-in-law than just the kitten being there. I am thankful that you got as involved as you did as I know many others wouldn't. I hope the cat finds a good home.

Nope, I have never experienced this situation before. It is kind of you to go to this extent to help the pets! They too have feelings and am sure that they are appreciative of all the effort that you all give to help them! God bless you all!
